How to set up RetroArch on Android: Beginner guide / tutorial / instruction

I have a gamepad for my android. How do you remap the controller for each core?
Button "A" and Button "B" are not the smae for SEGA, NES, SNES, etc.

I load a core, and remap for SEGA
Then I load a core and remap for Nintendo

Nothing works. The last remapping just applies to all cores.

I searched everywhere to load the content which i installed. I gind nothing

I'm trying to use the mame cheat database zip file can i unzip it and put it in retroarch in the cheat folder or does it go in the mame core folder of choice i know you can do ghis method in mame but im not sure about retroarch im going round in circles

Can you use a controller like backbone with retroarch?

Have you tried NDS games on this? The botton screen was supposed to be touch screen but instead, for me, it's showing a pointer instead to use the touch screen as a mouse and it makes absolutely no sense on an android device, it's suposed to be like this for mouse, but after almost an hour searching for a way to make it naturally touch screen like MelonDS does, I just gave up.

Retroarch has been nothing but a pain in the ass for me. I load the cores and try to open the ROMs at which point the app crashes... EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Secondly, Retroarch is not an emulator, contrary to what is stated in this video. It is a frontend. Personally, i don't see the point in a frontend that is this disorderly.

My app does not have the dreamcast core. Any idea on how to get it? Do I need the retroarch plus app?

Can you play retro arch gaming emulator offline, multiplay, install mods to some games, and back up data where you can continue your existing data with your gaming process on other devices?

Unfortunately some of my roms aren't getting read by Retroarch, PS1 and Dreamcast specifically (of course the ones I want to play) aren't showing up.

How do you get the dolphin core in pour list? I do not have it on Android.

The video showed a few things that I didn't quickly find myself so thanks.
Speaking of RetroArch, so far I find working with gamepad overlays the biggest culprit. The default Genesis overlay forces 4 (!) buttons on top of my game screen and it feels absolutely bloated and ugly. The default gamepad, even though it lacks 2 buttons, at least puts all this bloat to sides where there's no game screen.
Furthermore, it would be very helpful to be able to edit your layout within the app itself and to at least be able to move buttons on the screen. This seems like an easily implementable feature and I have no idea why RetroArch still doesn't have it while so many games on Android provide this feature. With phones having screens that go to the very edge of the device, pressing that C button is pretty much twisting your fingers. Also all hands are different, devices have different sizes etc. So far this is my biggest complain about RetroArch.

where to get the games from?

How do you map the quick menu on an android controller? I just got backbone controller but I can't figure it out. Do you have a video for this?

I scanned an entire directory for various systems. Nothing populated 😅. I recently updated both Android 14 and RetroArch. Maybe the Android update is related?? RetroArch used to be able to read everything fine before the update. I tried fresh install and still nothing. What could be the problem do you think?

Me in 2024 watching this and still not finding the one I need

This video left out literally everything I was stuck on. If you don't see any cores in the downloader or any touch-screen controls read this: From the HOME menu click "Online Updater", scroll to the bottom, click every single "Update x" button, all of them, don't miss any. Everything should now work.

I have no idea why RetroArch puts out a build like this, and there's literally no information anywhere at all about how to set it up. I don't even know why other people don't need to do these steps.

Plainly cannot launch a game on Flycast(Sega Dreamcast core). Find pack of BIOSes. Doesn't help. I don't know how to troubleshoot it and those "beginners" video doesn't make it at least possible either... "Intimidating" is a weak word about... 🤬
