As a Marine who served at the same time, I can tell you he probably already did those things he talked about, by order of the United States of America. He needs a good therapist and a moral injury support group. He needs someone to help him let go of those nightmares.

It’s clear to me this guy is deeply affected by complex ptsd and is constantly replaying the realisation that he, as a killer, was capable of killing children, even though he finds that despicable. His comments did not mean he actually did or would kill children, any psychotherapist would know that. He even stated he refused to do it in action when ordered to. This guy needs to be left alone. Unfortunately his sarcasm dug him into the hole with the police.

Edit: He had PTSD. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This is an illness in the human brain that alters the process and thoughts of the affected person. He had killed people with the same gun used in the Sandy Hook Incident, so his PTSD made him imagine that. (Not protecting him, but I can see where part of it came from).
