I absolutely do not recommend: Suicide Squad - Kill the Justice League (Review)

Rocksteady is the kind of company that thinks its Rockstar. You share the first half of the name and nothing else. A bunch of incompetent first year devs that really shouldn't be working in this industry.

I mean, they wanted the characters to feel kind of similar.They wanted weapons to be kind of similar because that means they don't have to put in as much work

Kill your darlings doesn't mean to kill of characters you like. Kill your darling means to cut stuff from your story that you like, but don't contribute to the story.

Brother idk how the fuck you could possibly want Harley Quinn to continue speaking when she opens her mouth. Her voice is an instant headache

I'm a big fan of the characters of the Suicide Squad, as in their comic books, animated appearances and some live action interpretations.

With that said, as a consumer of both the IP and the gameplay model this game failed me on both fronts. The writing and interpretations of the characters, I reserved my criticisms until after the launch of season one. I gave them enough time to show me what they were offering.

It doesn't feel like it was written by someone who knew a lot about the characters, it's cast of characters and their utilities feel misplaced and off step. Why use Poison Ivy as the universal element vendor, when another Lex Corp experiment is mentioned in game who possesses 3/4 of the same elements (Bizarro) and was literally a failed clone of Superman? He should have shown up and bodied a JL member in a cutscene. Where is anyone from the expansive roster of characters we've seen for over 70 years?

That's one small but questionable choice, in a laundry list of Harley's depiction, the lack of character growth and team cohesion through the story, etc

After $100 for a pre order, multiple customer service tickets left unsolved on bugs, missing content for paid redemption of comic book codes and twitch drops. I'm done with this game, unfortunately.

Absolute worst UI that I have ever seen in any game. My eyes feels bruised looking at all the zillions of numbers pouring out of enemies, along with the crazy swirling and blurring technicolour tinting with every camera move and every gunshot, the random hexagons, the smokey purple and red flashing when you take a hit, the objective list and compass and bars and subtitles and checklists that go around the entire border of your vision, it's a fucking mess! 😵‍💫

Am i the only person who hate the concept of having suicide squad fight against any member of Justice league? The whole point of suicide squad is to do the "dirty work" that heroes wont do. But i certainly cant believe that any of these schmucks can beat any member of the JL. This just feels like the devs trying to capitalise on the popularity of the boys

I would say this looks like a fortnite expansion but I think Fortnite devs would've done a better justice to these characters.

you give jabs at this game (which they're all well deserved + more) but the praises you give to it from the get-go (beside the mo-cap) makes me for that the 1st time feel like you've been paid by the publisher to do a less harsh review... dislike👎🏻

Nail on the head! Not justifying this by any means, but shock of all shocks, that was the route they went down because I guess they knew just killed off the JL was going to be a bit much if it were the actual heroes I guess. But man, has the time since launch been underwhelming. Even those still trying to defend the game have already had their last legs swept under them (trying to claim they are in season 3 when it is just season 2 still. Definitely sad stuff).

The game is 💩. And batman's catastrophically poorly handled death an insult to Kevin Conroy's Arkham Legacy. Your opinions and subscriptions doesn't matter. I'd be fine if this garbage of a game had no connection to arkham games whatsoever, but it is a direct sequel to Knight and the batman is indeed the same one we loved and played as in all of the previous arkham games.

It is 110% justified and acceptable to compare Gotham Knights to Arkham. Knight at the end of the day, this is from the same f**** studio. This is from the same f**** people and they didn't put in the time and the effort to make it something worth a s*** It's not my f**** fault these a***** want $70 for their dog s*** if they didn't want to be compared to what they made before. Maybe they shouldn't have made a game.

I just can’t get over how gross this game looks. It’s so busy and garish, it’s insane.

What bothers me is all the numbers continually popping up on the screen whenever you shoot something. Totally distracting and, in my estimation, unneeded.

You play as the suicide squad, and unalive the justice league.
There's no more depth to the plot other than inspired filler between point A to B.

Such a shame, because instinctively, after reading such an ironic title, id expect there to be this huge twist revealed behind the curtain, that'll prove that there is so much more behind the title's message, but no. In this case, you can literally judge the book entirely by the cover.

I personally think that they missed an opportunity in not making the fight against the Justice League longer by having each member be the main enemy of an entire season. You would maybe have multiple run-ins with the the current member which would give them the opportunity to flesh out as characters. You could dedicate an appropriate amount of time to finding the way to kill each member in first place and it would give the developers the opportunity to have a vast array of different mission types each season. It would also give them the theme for the first four seasons just with the Justice League members that are there at launch plus a fifth one if they'd take the same approach for the fight against Braniac. You could even integrate the new playable characters into this approach, having each of them be a new addition to the team to beat the current target.

In general, I don't think a live-service games story needs to reach a conclusion in the launch version. If a "normal" game is a movie, then ,in my opinion, a live-service game is a series. It doesn't need to reach a conclusion in the first installment, it needs to hook its audience to experience the rest. And just like a series is longer than a movie and thus has more time to dedicate to every part of its narrative, a live-service game too is allowed to take more time in progressing its narrative, or at least i belive they should be.

Also, I don't want to sound like I think the developers are stupid or lazy, the way the game ended is probably at least to to an extend the fault of management and publishing rather than the development team.

This and Concord flopping so hard bring me immense joy. The game is fundamentally terrible and disrespectful to the franchise that spawned it.
The fact the main story ends with "Thank You Kevin" (without addressing the utter disrespect shown to Batman) before your moron character goes "Oh my god, I got a new gun!" which is named Mysterious Illness is enough to make anyone angry

Got Deluxe edition for £18, still not worth it?

Honestly, now that the deluxe edition was $5, I bought it and it wasn't bad to be honest a decent 7/10, feel really bad to have Rocksteady be wasted like this though.

This game is currently $4 CAD that's right four dollars canadian dollars on steam right now. This review came not less than a year ago. Even for $4 I don't want this.

I hate Live service AAA gaming. I hope this trend ties of forcing game companies known for SINGLEPLAYER games to make Live Service garbage dies already.

Honestly what would have worked was if each character had movesets tied into their character in the comics… or at least if they were able to hold weapons create moves with them or something. More games should learn from god of war’s gameplay loop honestly

I know it's not a perfect game and didn't expect it to be. People are too critical and quick to freak out over everything. I enjoy it and couldn't care less who hates me for saying that. I wish more seasons could've come out.
