Actually the G4 hat a pretty good performance per watt compared to the G5. Clocked at the same frequency, a G4 was faster than a G5.

The drawbridge-PowerMac G3/G4 case design was an absolute classic - very aesthetically pleasing but also so simple,and easy to access and upgrade. Another era. I owned and used various versions between 2000 until about 2016 when I sold my last ProTools rig that still ran like a dream. Was just a shame that the G5’s thermals were never going to work in that neat, compact case. I remember getting my Dual G5/2GHz in 2003 and being shocked at the size of the tower. Mind you, for AU$7000 at the time, at least you were getting a ‘lot’ of computer 😂

I can’t wait until hopefully the prices will drop on the older cinema displays. I still have my g4 mirror drive and they look so much better on a Cinema Display.

I still have all my OS 9. Lion, Puma, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Tiger DVDs just in case I come across one of these babies.

I remember lusting after one of these when they were current. I could never justify the price given how much "work" I was going to be doing with it. In the end, once my workload matured, I skipped right over this and got the G5. What an utter nightmare that machine proved to be. That was when I left Macs for my DAW, thankfully PC DAWs had also matured.

I wonder if you could take the shell of one of these Minitowers and use it for a modern-day PC build

I had one of these!

This model used to keep my room warm and forget about leaving it on at night, that power supply was too loud. But it let me hold on to OS 9 until OS X was a better alternative for using the at the time, modern web.

i think there is a way to remove yellowing from clear plastic. anti-yellow chemical solvents? something like that.

just... fill in the RAM, try to upgrade the video, install some SSD if you can, install Debian or Manjaro for PPC and voila, you have a ully operational mac.

I know that apple users will be hoping that their useless macs from back in the day will get better with age like wine, but it wont. You wasted your money back then. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

I used to have one of these given to me by a neighbor, it was a top-spec dual-1.42ghz FW800 G4 that was a very cool system (while it worked). Sadly the PRAM battery died and leaked all over the board and I didn’t have the means to fix it so I had to scrap it and recycle it. I still have the G4 processor card and it’s a highlight of my little parts collection I have

That has been the second Mac I ever bought new (but I think it was like dual 1.25 Ghz or so). First one was a G3 mini tower.

As far as I know TenFourFox PPC has been discontinued 'recently', you might have better luck with Interweb (a fork of it.)

You can replace all the internals and fit a mac studio inside and you are all set.

Nostalgia! I bought one of these new back in the day. Single 1.25ghz processor, I don't remember the rest. Paid US $1500 for it. I ended up lugging it to work and using it there, it was fun confusing everyone (Macs were still SO rare in offices back then). I sold it a few years later for I think $1200 or so, when Macs still had really good resale value.

I actually had the MDD G4, but sadly it blew up on me and I had to get rid of it long ago. I imagine it simply was suffering from overheating problems that eventually cooked it to death. I do miss it, but I always preferred the design of the Sawtooth anyways.
