The U.S. military, specifically the Army and the Marine Corps have tables of organization which give the ideal size sub units to from squad level through division. Trouble I see is this....and I saw it when watching or reading accounts of battle in Iraq and Afghanistan....and that involves what higher commands think is the sized unit needed to accomplish a particular task or mission. Often though there is a large variance in the number of men in say squads, platoons and companies. So higher command looks at an objective and decides that a company ought to be able to handle the job. But I've seen and heard of company sizes (especially in wartime) from 90 men to 250 men. Expecting the same results from different sized units can run you into problems. Same happens with platoons and squads.
Ответитьwtf is Yards! That's the worst part of being part of an American world. And why therefore I would now go Anti-west.
Ответитьhow the US go to war? they wait until every other fractions have decimized themselves, then join at the end and declare themselves as the winner. if they start a war by themselfsm they often loose it.
Ответить10/10 extremely well done, bravo.
Ответитьthe fuck is a pound? THE ENTIRE WORLD USES METRIC. USE THE THING 200 COUNTRIES USE NOT WHAT 1 RELIGIOUS SHITHOLE USES.
ОтветитьInformative but seriously don't use pounds and yards when most of the world uses the metric system and Kilograms, or at least mention both.
ОтветитьAs an infantry man not much has changed. I’ve handled the m1 grand I even qualified on the mg3 your videos are very good almost like you have the field manuals. We can agree though we don’t follow the doctrine that’s what makes us so scary
ОтветитьThe pay scale illustrated is wildly off. In 1966 I was paid $72 a month, by the time i entered Vietnam I was getting close to $100. Add in a generous $40 combat pay while in country.
ОтветитьFantastic video! Held my attention from beginning to end, very informative. 👍🏼👌🏼
ОтветитьIn response to the comment about not all men being “eager volunteers” yes some of them genuinely did not want to enlist, but in the US the conscription system was instituted explicitly because they military had TOO MANY volunteers early on and Roosevelt passed a law in 1942 that closed voluntary enlistments because they were designed if the labor force for war essential industries.
Ответитьyards, pounds..meh, im not listening to this
ОтветитьLove the detail in this…. Awesome!… been studying World War II stuff for over 40 years I didn’t start until I was 20 …this is well done thanks
ОтветитьAmazing video! Any chance of a video on the British structure?
ОтветитьThe more I learn about how those guys fought in world war two, the more respect I have for them.
ОтветитьThis brings up so many interesting topics of debate, so many poignant positions of conversation. If a sergeant struggles in modern warfare attempting to command 11 others what could it possibly be like as a centurion who would command at least 80? Is it because of the modern combat situations? Is it because of a degradation in our social capabilities? Is it simply because one culture was more suited for it than the other? There appear to be obvious answers, but that in itself proves that the topic is complicated. I just feel like it’s not being had and it seems like an exciting one to be a part of. Anyone’s thought’s on this?
ОтветитьWould love to see a British version of this
ОтветитьIt all comes down to a simple set of numbers. a fire team is made up of 3 soldiers. Three teams make a squad. 3-4 squads make a platoon. 4 platoons (minus the HHQ platoon) make a Company. Three companies make a battalion. 3-4 battalions make a brigade. 3-4 Brigades make a division. 3-4 Divisions make an an Army, like the 3rd or 5th Army. A squad has an E4 (I was an MP and we had E5) as a team leader, Squad leader is an SSG, Platoon SGT is usually an SFC or a MSG. A platoon has a 1 or 2LT as leader, a company has a Captain, a battalion has a LTCOL, a Brigade has a Col, or a BG. A Division has a MG, an Army has a LTG.
ОтветитьBest Chanel ever ! I love it
ОтветитьPlatoon Guide was a Sgt at the same time the Plt Sgt was a Staff Sgt. then later on in 1943 Plt Guide became a Staff Sgt when PLtSgt was went to the Technical Sgt. 3 up, 2 down.
ОтветитьThe "Platoon Leader", usually a Lieutenant, is the only officer that truly leads soldiers. All others give orders, but are rarely in the front, literally leading. In WWII, it's said that Chesty Puller judged how aggressive his Marine regiments were being by how many Lieutenants were killed that week.
Ответитьthanks for the info. My dad was a 1st Lt. (Australia OCS). One hill they took, the info says two companies were down to a total of 27 men by the time they achieved the goal. I never knew the number. Sad, out of 400 soldiers.
ОтветитьI wish it was as easy as just moving forward. Didn't the Germans kill 1.5 to every 1 allied soldier? How were their tactics better? Was it weapons?
ОтветитьI would be very glad if there were some unit translation in the video. He was saying about x punds there and x punds there but it says nothing to me. I really dont know how heavy was the equipment they were carrying. It is frustrating.
ОтветитьMy great grandfather was over there he got his hand messed up by a German booby trap and we got some silver we ain't giving back. Just a sentiment from KY US. Love the beer Love yall.
ОтветитьA 4 Star General made $620.00 a month. Where the hell did you come up with a Pvt. making $860.00 + 20% Overseas $1, 032,00 a month
ОтветитьWtf is a pound? 🤦🏼♂
ОтветитьSuch was the sheer size of armies in WW2 it wasn't unheard of ti have sergeants in their early 20s and Lt Cols in their mid 20s
ОтветитьReally well done and presented.
Ответить70% were conscripted.
Hmm so much for the myth of the good war.
This is inaccurate for 1944...
ОтветитьMe checking out this video after call to arms gates of hell liberation dlc came out. Shout out to barbwire studios for making such a great game
ОтветитьA whole company, from privates to a captain, and not a single corporal?
ОтветитьNo chemical weapon specialist attached to a company?
ОтветитьI would love to see this on the napoleonics war
ОтветитьWhat a great video. Thank you for sharing.
ОтветитьCapital! Thank you very much!
ОтветитьThe LMG squad shows four privates and a sergeant, but you said a sergeant and three privates.
ОтветитьMy understanding was thar US Rifle sqauds at the beginning of the war were 6 men, 1 armed with a Thompson and the other 5 with M1 Garands. When they first went into combat this what all they had and they lacked grenades. But as resources were aquired they could be upgraded with 2 BARs and pineapple and AT rifle grenades.
Later in the war, the squad size was reduced to 5 men for some reason, but they changed to a system if "weapon racks" where Riflemen could be upgraded with either 2x BARs, 2x Bazookas, or one of each. Some different Commanders allowed access to M1919 LMGs but only one could be carried by the Rifle sqaud. However all Airborne units could get 2x M1919s, 4x Thompsons or 2x Bazookas and they were 6 man sqauds.
I feel like being small and light isn’t necessarily a disadvantage as a rifleman.
ОтветитьEverybody gangster until the Tiger I appears. ...nice vid. 👍
ОтветитьI now wanna see what a Soviet and Japanese Rifle company looks like.
ОтветитьThank you for an excellent video. I'm hoping for more of the same kind of videos about other factions and units from WW2. Especially the airborne units.
ОтветитьGreat content Invicta team. Thanks for telling the details that made USARMY the force it was during WW2. Very interesting.
ОтветитьWhy would the gunner not carry the M1919a4
ОтветитьA depressing explanation of the impersonal meat grinder that is modern industrial war. A man sent into this process would soon realize that he was there to be used up and discarded.
ОтветитьНичего не понял, но очень интересно
ОтветитьOne thing I didn't hear much was weapons calibers. All of the Springfields. M1 Garands, B.A.R.s and tripod mounted machine-gun used the. 30-06 round. Thompson submachineguns, M-3 "greaseguns", and m1911 pistols used the .45 ACP round. If the officers carried an M-1 carbine, it had the .30 cal M-1 carbine round. This simplicity allowed for some ease of resupply since more than 90% of the ammunition was of two common rounds
