The Italian historian and folklorist Carlo Ginzburg has found similar tales all round Europe, with Snow White as a sorceress, like Cinderella who can bring animals back to life and has powers that threaten her mother/stepmother. Hence the need to kill her and devour her heart and lungs.
Incedentally, Disney's wicked queen was based on images of Wallis Simpson, who married Britain's monarch Edward VIII. At the time of the abdication crisis, children used to sing a variation of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing: Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,
Mrs Simpson's nicked our King!

Most people aren't aware that the none Disney adaption story film about SnowWhite that was released in 1955 directed by Erich Kobler are closer as a respectful version of a live adaptation despite of their limitations when comes to technologies in films back in 50:es era in comparison to Disney's so called Remake that has nothing to do with the original version source material that Walt Disney himself used in the animated version with his own vision of the original story..

Sir, near the end re Briget "... the double wife, and also the animosity between mother and daughter may have ... due to seasonal changes ..."
Sir, not so. The ancient peoples often had two wife families, especially if living off the land, as they all did except some ruling nobility. Landed peasants always have work. However, here a love story caused them to eliminmate the jeleous mother.

Re previous animosity between mother hates daughter so much to want to kill her, the inner reason is that the daughter stole away her father's love for his wife - her mother - by father-daughter incest relationship, until the father died from battle wounds in some war away from homestead. Jealous Mom swore her revenge on the female who took her only husband away from his first love. This was pagan practice allowed under Druid law customs, and to kill from extreme emotions was not neccesarily judged as murdering innocent victims. But wow, what a ton of info

The mother represents the narcissistic parent who practices witchcraft.

Talking to a magic mirror is called scrying for instance. But is also the symbol for narcissism. Seeing only themselves, but ironically not self-reflecting properly.

The human heart of the narcissistic parent is so severely ill, they become a host for demonic entities that want to s-mother humanity, before it can develop into healthy adulthood.

Narcissism is what is at the core of this trope. Witchcraft is the tool. To fool someone is the psychological part of witchcraft. The apple is another attribute of the trope.

The mother is satanic. And Satan is the epitome of narcissism.

I enjoyed that very much, thank you. A thought I had on the hart, lungs and liver ->
The youth and vitality of the organs, ofcourse can prolong life, but I think there might be a more esoteric meaning...where evolution meets devolution. Or hijacking a Merkaba... though elemental magic.. let me explain
Lungs, representing the element of air, create possibilties/ pathways, your ability agility to master breath, in many traditions is a fundamental resource in creating reality, thus giving inspired thoughts and possibilities, through creating pathways in the brain....... Once the desired idea aligns, inspired action will follow, signaling the hart through the endocrine system to 'pump' and thus move the body towards that action. For the body to move, it needs food and water. The liver fights off anything that does not create a state of balans and thus, is made to guard and protect.
Also, more on 'the surface', smoking and drinking cause decay in lungs and liver, which maybe the mother felt vicimized for. Het own body, unable to turn back time, is full of denial. Denail is one of the 6 core wounds of humanity/ devine feminine (see line 2 Venus sequence of the Gene Keys). The 62th Gene Key shadow expression is intellect (mind), the highest impeccability (mind, body spirit integration), adding in the line 2, we get the archetype of the dancer. In the highest expression, that would be a queen, governing devine law, so to speak. In the lowest expresion, she would be a dark witch that is out to manipulate denine order. The punishment of dancing makes sense, because, universal law will give you what you want.... she can dance to death in her denail, staying in her karmic, mindloop , thinking she can outsmart nature/god/ or the organic-cosmic balance of creation.

Sorry for the spelling, thanks again!

In another version of this tale, the Evil Queen, extremely furious for her magic mirror's answer that her stepdaughter Snow White's still the fairest of them all, even in her womanhood, smashed the magic mirror into pieces with her perfume bottle she's using and the mirror, in retaliation, flung a curse against the Evil Queen by turning her into a horrible old hag and finally into a spec of ashes and dust driven by the four winds and also, if it isn't bad enough, her vile and ruin soul was taken away by Satan and his army of etenal darkness into the bottom of Hades for all eternity. 👹

Does anyone even know what a vampire really is? I doubt. Vampire means a spirit (creature of the night) that must feed on blood to survive. (Has anyone read Jewish folklore?) I doubt it. One text says that God created a woman of dust from Earth (Lilith). Another text says that God created a woman from ribs from a man (Eve). The First mentioned woman did not submit to the man Adam, she escaped and married a fallen angel (one of the evil sons of God) title: (angel of Death) Samael. Offspring: Nephillim(giant). Lilith returned to the garden, but was cast out and cursed. Turned into a violent female demonic beast that slaughtered thousands of people, (Dark light). A holy sect called Faith, cleaned up. In Protestantism, Lilith is a witch. (In pagan worship, Lilith is the goddess of the moon) Mother of all beasts (vampires and werewolves).
Some groups of people worshiped the moon and received the Werewolf Curse. Others became undead spirits that sucked human blood (Succobine). Is a mysterious being that visits men at night when they sleep and drinks their blood. Succobine was translated to vampire.

Has anyone heard of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty?
It is said that her father remarried because he thinks his daughter should have a mother. Sleeping Beauty's father was of royal blood.
But the stepmother (in married queen). Was a sorceress who treated her stepdaughter badly. On her 16th birthday, she was supposed to stick herself on a rock that spins wool into yarn. and sleep for 100 years. A prince came and kissed her and she woke up. They married and lived happily.

It is a Live Action film based on the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty.
There she is called Princess Aurora, daughter of King Stephan of the human kingdom. There she has a Godmother, played by: Angelina J as the dark fairy Malaficent (guardian of the fairy kingdom). She acts as the evil queen in the world of humans. And Aurora on her 16th birthday sticks herself on the rock and falls asleep. But in this version, a prince does not come. (The prince failed). (Instead, Malaficent finds that she is the one who must kiss Aurora to undo her own bewitchment that she cast on the princess). She wakes up and everyone lives happily in harmony until an evil queen from Snow White and The Hunt's men show up. To stop the marriage between Aurora and a prince. Sequel. The prince's mother is her. The evil in Snow White and the Hunt men also had a mirror she asked.
This was the sister of another woman in The Winter War.

Thanks for this interesting dive into the Snow White mythology.
I was surprised tho, to see no mention of obvious parallels with Demeter-Persephone myth: in which also the Daughter disappears into the Underworld, then seasonally re-emerges, bringing back fruitfulness to the world.
Except in that version, it's the man-suitor-would-be-husband who abducts & imprisons the Daughter; & her Mother who mourns her & won't rest until she's rescued / liberated.

Just read the Grimms brothers fairy tale, as it was written. This explanation is as convoluted as a Viking Saga. Disney needs to keep the story as it was written , and leave out all the woke lies of today's woke times. Snow White is a beautiful white European Girl. Not a puerto rican, or black woman. Leave history as it is . Stop trying to change history to appease the woke crowd that are trying to change history as we know history!!!

I do wonder if these tales don't also have the message reminding women to check for signs of life before assuming death and practicing burial in a time before coma was understood.
Our heroine is resurected by clearing her airways twice and by removing a source of poison (possibly similar to a snake, bee, or wasp?). These all seem like sensible moves in the case of a not-quite-dead loved one. The "kiss" of the prince also has some resemblance to rescue breathing.
Perhaps these tales are a way to help children learn some first aide skills, too?

The connection you imply with Persephone and Demeter is fascinating. Demeter isn’t portrayed as jealous or murderous as such, but as psychologically unable to let go of her daughter and permit her to have her own being, which is not so different. You imply, I think, that this relates to the fullness of the harvest season being unwilling to yield its glory to the next generation/year. The seeds (/daughters) go into the ground (/underworld) in the autumn to eacape the domineering mother, lie dormant there in a mystical half-alive state for half a year, then emerge fresh and green in the Spring as the new year takes over from the old one.

I hadn’t made this connection before, about the mother being the old year passing away unwillingly as her beauty fades.

Definitely feels like a gut-level observation by ancestral story-tellers about the tension and violence inherent to reproduction, the love for offspring as intertwined in some ghastly way with the raging against one’s own death that new life necessitates, drawing parallels between the human experience of this and the same patterns seen elsewhere in nature, looking for ways to find peace and order among these conflicting elements.

Thank you for your work. Always stimulating.

I love the crossover of Celtic and Germanic mythology. There must be a common Indo-European link and some numerological connexion with the number seven. There is certainly a Christian reference to sin regarding the offering of a poisoned apple, the word 'mela' meaning apple in Italian is etymologically derived from Latin 'malus' meaning 'evil'. So many ties to ancient European mythology, the tale of Snow White has got it all.
