I watched this video in late 2019 and it inspired me to become a blacksmith. Now it is 2021 and because of this video i built my own shop bought all my owns tools and am now making beautiful pieces of iron work. So thank you for inspiring me.
ОтветитьFrom watching this, I got some guidelines on making a forge, a price of a small anvil, what you quench in, that a normal claw head or ball peen hammer is fine, rebar is cheap practice material, and how to make it not brittle after a quench.
From an Alec Steele video, I got a simple project that he recommends beginners make a ton of to gain precision and practice.
Combine these two and I think I might be good
A 1 foot section of railroad track makes a decent anvil.
Or a 1 foot section of forklift fork.
Make sure you're doing it on top of septic only a joke don't do that
ОтветитьDoes this still work in update 2023?
ОтветитьI'm 6 years late, but thank you so much for this video ❤
Ответитьmoral of the story: suck it up and buy a grinder
ОтветитьWhere is the fire source .. gas ?
You didn't explain it ..
THE PREPPERS MIND
ОтветитьRehehehe
ОтветитьI think I’m going to try this
ОтветитьBrother is a badass
ОтветитьIf you plan on selling your house anytime soon, try not to make knives out of your property markers
Ответитьits especially wrong to use power tools if you have them laying around anyway
ОтветитьСенкью
ОтветитьI just watched this and in the morning I'm going to try it out, I hope it goes well, also thanks to this guy for making the video, really simple and explains basic things
Ответитьdude I know I'm 6 years late but I'm wanting to start blade smithing and the way you say "I'm not going to us a angel grinder" and then do it any way is very funny to me. And for that I will sub to ya. Stay safe and stay cool, well that kind of hard to do when your working in a forge.
ОтветитьAnd here's how you make an authentic post-apocalyptic survival knife! XD
ОтветитьAmazing vid, I just bought a 25lb anvil and I’m gonna try black smithing for the first time tomorrow
Ответитьsure my neighbors would love to hear * PING PING PING PING * for hours on end lol
ОтветитьHAHA, "I'll just leave it here." "Have you seen my super suit!?"
ОтветитьIs it very important to use forged anvil...or we can use cast iron anvil for beginners
ОтветитьThis is awesome! Id love too do this one day
ОтветитьIf only my parents would let me. Freaking Boomers
ОтветитьYou got a old speaker around take out the magnet. Picks up old sharp or dull nails. Thank you for your help with forging. Easy Peasy. Simple start.
ОтветитьThank you, a great video!
ОтветитьThanks man God bless in Jesus name Amen
ОтветитьWhat’s the oil
ОтветитьI opened the video to later realise I can't use most of these hints since I don't have a backyard
Ответитьi have all of this in my backyard
Ответитьthanx 4 d info
Ответитьwill any brick work?
ОтветитьSome people I work with for a historical reenactment group are trying to find a way to make a portable forge for the renaissance festival
Ответить"it's easier to get forgiveness than permission I'll just leave it there" honestly the most badass thing I've ever heard, love this dude 😎
ОтветитьIs it weird that me as a teenager is interested in forging?
ОтветитьLove it! Direct and practical 👍
ОтветитьGotta inverse that pricing for the rebar nowadays, you can get about 3 or 4 feet for 20 dollars 😂
ОтветитьMy neighbors will love me!
ОтветитьHi! Thanks! Forgivenes is easier to get than permission. :-) Once I made knife, I’l do the wooden spoon and plate and a cup with it and then I make couple of needles and start making clothes from leather.
ОтветитьWhy do you quench it and not just let it cool off on its own? Will it still be brittle if you dont quench?
ОтветитьTwo points. One, rebar is a soft steel so while good for practice it isn't hardenable for blades. The most important point dont use cooking charcoal as it has chemicals in it to keep the temp down. Use lump charcoal, it looks like just burnt sticks instead of fomed bricks.
ОтветитьI'd curve the metal a bit before i flatten it
ОтветитьYou could make a gap in the bricks and use that as the channel for the forced air.
ОтветитьI respect your purity towards the craft bra
Ответитьjust made a home made forge out of a propane tank. welded legs to it and all... cut the top off as the entrance.
ОтветитьVery interesting.......thank you !
ОтветитьAmazing
ОтветитьI am finally going to attempt this.
