When I think about Florida... the first thing pops up in my head: old white boomers.

It easy to think that the answer is to invest more blue dollars than red dollars, but the reality that the amount spent is what wins elections is troubling more than who wins. It a loose loose situation.

The misinformation part is so true! I have a couple Cuban friends who recently came here from Cuba! When I first meet them, they didn’t seem to like the republicans much, after a year, the slowly started to show support for them because of all the socialist ads they see on the TV or on social media, it’s pretty sad honestly, they seemed smarter than to fall for it, then they just started to become Ignorant abt it

I don't get it, aren't the "no party" affiliation people in Florida also missing from the Republicans? Is there data to suggest that if forced into a party, more of them would lean Democrat??

As a lifelong Floridian this is very accurate but it's important to remember that every elected Governor in Florida from 1874 right up until Jeb Bush in 1999, was a Democrat. That's over 100 years of straight Liberal leadership founding and forming the state and making it a great place to live, and a little over 20 so far of Republicans. It's funny to hear people say they moved hear for the freedoms because it was a much honestly better and more free place to live as far as doing what you want and not bothered by Government when it was under prior management, which attracted swaths of American's to the state from he 50's through the 90's, before it became so overpopulated.

Short answer: Republicans were the only ones who were willing to listen to the people in the state. They didn't "conquer" it so much as they were let in by the people there. So let in, in fact, that Miami-Dade (a historically Blue county) voted for DeSantis by a healthy majority in his second gubernatorial election. The state is still a swing state but it'll remain a Red one so long as Democrats keep ignoring what the Hispanics and Caribbeans, just as examples, look for in a candidate and want in policies. If the people of Florida didn't already agree with alot of DeSantis' policies then he would've been voted out already but he hasn't, and it's for a reason. Keep discarding the minority vote and you won't win the state back.

As a native Floridian, I can tell you that the new generation does not support Republican. But they want more progress than the democrats can offer. Will forever be proud of my home state no matter who my fellow citizens elect to represent it.

You cannot lump all Latinos into a single group. Cubans have always voted Republican, but not Puerto Ricans, the second largest Hispanic group in Florida.

People don't vote with their heads, apparently. They vote with their wallet. Or rather, the wallet of whoever has the most funding in any given area. Really highlights how much of elections aren't about policy or governance or truth seeking, but about shifting money around.

Don't forget the voter suppression, disenfranchisement, and gerrymandering.

The only thing that might help is the business community getting mad that the gqp has driven out such vast numbers of their immigrant workers that they are losing millions.
With profits uber-alles, it may come to a point that the greed overcomes the anti-democrat party positions of the oligarchs in that state and they buy themselves new representation.

Fully believe if Dems nominated Gwen Graham in 2018, she would have beaten DeSantis. Bill Nelson would have been re-elected to the Senate, too. I always thought Andrew Gillum was a bad candidate... even before all the nonsense came out about him.

The Democrats that keep screaming and wanting to get everything they want as a one party system for America with unlimited power for them will never happen as long as the Republicans are still alive on this planet, it will just continue to be a tug of war forever.

This is some of the most well-researched, well-presented journalism I have seen in some time. It is inspiring to see an openly left-leaning outlet like Vox purveying straightforward information, in the spirit of the people they are talking about. We could all do with more videos like this from Vox, Daily Wire, and the rest.

Most people I know who were born in South American countries vote Republican. I include myself as well. The Hispanic community is very divided and is a topic of interest of mine. From what I gather living in Southern California, people from South America were in a higher tax bracket before coming into the United States than those from Central America.

Money wasn’t spent in Florida because the Democrat Party knew it was a lost cause. They could have spent tens of millions of dollars more and the outcome would not have changed.
