Can you create a video on soldering and desoldering the analog sticks?

Rather makes me mad when he glosses over the hard parts... for example for the xbox 360 controller... just "strip, tin and solder" it. I've spent 2 days trying to get it right.. would like the 5 minute version seeing all the details rather than a 2 second, 3 panel image that glosses over it. I've soldered many things before over the years but trying to solder such thin wires onto the board with less than 1mm of clearance between the contacts is not easy.

Is there a datasheet or information on what exact potentiometers an xbox 360 controller uses? Cause if so, then my 360 (which still doesnt have drift) will be easy to fix in the future.

I have an Xbox One with a broken trigger, and I am.having a rough time.

This was a needed video, in the last two years i have had to replace Two brand new XBOX one controllers, im very easy with them and very good, I play tons of racing games and after about 6 months each time i get stick drift!!

About the SNES controller: A button press does not send a signal to the console, it's the other way around. The IC in the controller is a shift register that gets polled by the console at its own pace.
Basically, whenever the SNES needs to know which buttons are being pressed it sends clock pulses to the PISO shift register which then captures the button states (parallel in) and returns the states for the console to read (serial out). Really simple to do with µC's btw.

The most common issues I have that I haven't found a way of fixing are onthe PS2 controllers

The pads that are used to detect "analogue input" just degrade and stop working. I have no idea how to fix that.

Also, there seems to be a common problem with the bridge that connects the two halves of the controllers. On later models, there's no way to reflow it that I can see.

The most factible reason that all main manufacturers are using potenciometer instead of magnetic or optic joysticks it's because of these two are pretty expensive making a mass producton costs increasing exponentially and that will result an +$50 overprice

Just on the off-chance that someone sees this, any ideas why a Stratus XL right joystick (R3) click would trigger left (L3) and right stick (R3) clicks randomly (but pressing left R3 doesn't)? I opened it up to see if there was any short circuiting, but that didn't seem the case, apart from butt-ugly soldering job.

so solution is to...replace parts from working controllers...? sounds like a roundabout way to say "buy a new controller".

And my wii remote has suffered corrosion because I let my nan have it for about a year and I found it like that afterwards

I remember my older brothers both used official xbox360 controllers (one wired one wireless) and I was stuck with a red rockcandy see through controller. Tbh it wasn't that bad, but it didn't have the nice chunky feeling from the official 360 sticks.

Shockingly my SNES (probably because it's the international version) controllers still work after 20-something years, only the colour has faded although all my PS3 and some of my xbox one controllers have em seen better days.

Takes me back when I put a USB port on a Xbox crossfire controller as a kid someone actually made drivers for it so it worked on my PC except that it was super janky cause I wired then like a well a kid

Note that on a CFW'd PS3, plugins exist to use other controllers with it, however a PS4 controller will work aside from the PS button and rumble on a stock PS3 as well. With said plugin you can use other controllers fully and as well as other PlayStation controllers.

Pro Tip:

If you are not already experienced and don't know how to repair a controller, getting the tools, repair parts, troubleshooting, following the tutorials and doing the repair yourself will take longer and will be more expensive than just working extra hours and buying a new controller.

So for the rockcandy controller I 100% get why he would prefer that controller over the newer Xbox controllers the triggers from the 360 are still so much better then the xbone and series X triggers but Microsoft discontinued the proper wired 360 controllers years ago meaning if you want the better controller even if it's dpad is worse you have to go something like rock candy

I got a ps2 slim from a man who was throwing all his stuff away and I couldn’t believe it. It had four controllers but two of them don’t work and the others are beaten up. I haven’t done tech repairs in my life, but it would be cool to try.
