Fuck me dead- only a third of the way in and this DUST bloke is an idiot. Like many in the comments here would be, I am a Veteran. And was never trained in CQB as I wasn't SF. Mates of mine who went to SF (in Australia being Commandos and SAS) showed me disarming drills and I practiced them while working Security.

The reality when faced with armed criminals was very different to the drills. While I did manage to disarm people with knives- I got cut (and stabbed once) in the process. And this was against people with no training (especially in weapon retention). Short version I was extremely lucky. They were usually drunk or on drugs, and hadn't eaten in a while so physically weaker than me.

There was no finesse, the drills went out the window, they had no idea what they were doing, and it came down to pinning or breaking the weapon arm by whatever means necessary. It was stupid to do and, while we were paid very well, not worth it. Going back I wouldn't have done it. But young, dumb, a Vet who is fucked in the head and a head full of steam.

Run if you can. Comply if you can't run. If you are in a position where neither of those are an option, try and keep their weapon away from vitals. And that is only talking about knives- not firearms.

Once apon a long time go I got a job as an armed security guard (that I soon quit that whole industry of punk wannabe's) and a supervisor tried - 'TRIED' to demonstrate some of this 'gun snatching, nerve pinching, hand and arm twisting' bullshit using an unload handgun. I'm just a regular guy and none of those dikheds could take the gun from me before I pulled the trigger with muzzle still pointed at them, couldn't apply a 'nerve pinch' that was even painful let alone disabling, and none of the fancy handwork worked.
It was fucking ridiculous
