Well, the thing is, that cinema viewport utilizes CPU + Ram and GPU is only used for textures, light, and redshift render engine of course, So actually that M1 Max 10 core is more comparable to a i9 10900k 10 core and Apple Unified Memory is way better than any desktop RAM, which would be great if you tell us How much Ram and speed is on the PC?

Hardly a reasonable comparison, given the Dell CPU is two generations old and likely to be less than half as powerful as a 12th gen Core i7/i9. An older CPU will likely mean slower RAM and a generally slower system, so everything will be slower. Also nothing to show what driver settings are being used. Then there is the fact that each viewport render looks different so we don't know which is giving us a more accurate preview. Finally, an RTX card is a gaming card, the real test would be against a Quadro card with the driver settings optimised for C4D. In that scenario, I'd expect the Apple silicon to be soundly thrashed in every part of the test.

Hi Nao Chan, im quite surprised the m1 max rendered your scene in 3m 10s and the rtx 3080 did it in 2m 30. That speed difference is just 30% - pretty much everywhere else the rtx 3080 is closer to 200% faster. Do you have any idea what could account for the rather ‘slow’ performance of the 3080 or fast performance of the m1 max in your testing?

What is mad is that we're comparing a 14" laptop running on battery, and through emulation and non-optimized software, to a... desktop running upper tier GPU cards.

So basically people are cheating the results of m1 chip out there lol. If the m1 pro max can't hold his own against 3080 how the others channel(apple fan) get more power is beyond me.

主要是3080并不是专业显卡，拿M1 Max跟他比不公平，具有专业nvidia 显卡的dell 移动工作站性能比M1 max强很多

Great to see this comparison and someone reviewing the new M1 Max. I'm stoked to consider moving back to Apple after a long hiatus due to specific GPU needs.

It would be interesting to see a desktop with a faster CPU however. I'd be interested to see a review with something other than the i7 10700K. Like the i9 12900K. My hunch is that some of the viewport issues would be less laggy with a higher spec CPU on the desktop and more of a fair comparison to the M1 Max.

For my work, I value faster final render times as that's where I end up saving hours. I'll be sticking to a PC and a 3080 or 3090 until I see the M1 max chips outperforming in that area. Totally realize that this is very much unoptimized at the moment for the M1 max, and I'm hopeful they'll keep squeezing every bit of performance out of that chip with newer versions of Redshift. I'm not ready to jump ship but 100% look forward to the next gen.
