When there's two mathematicians in different parts of the world and they both come up with the same ideas/theorems how can you not say that it's discovered not invented? IE calculus (newton /leibniz).. Me though im not sure if it's so simple, mabye some math is discovered and some math is invented, why only one?

Math is beautiful because it is predictable and surprising in the same time. Same thing with music — you can predict patterns, and it can surprise you. Combination of predictability and surprise release chemical substances in your brain that give you a sensation of joy that you relate with beauty.

Did we invent that 2+2 is 4? Of course not, we discovered it. As Max says we could call number two “marshmallow” and number 4 “kalimbawa” and then marshmallow plus marshmallow would be equal to kalimbawa. Still the apples behind the names would be the same.

They use mathematics to talk about something they know. Can the mathematics be less than correct to something we know. Science uses mathematics to describe, and when science fails as we advance, what we used science/mathematics to describe does not change. Or does it change? I’m of the camp that mathematics are discovered in the universe, not invented by humans. All we contribute are the ways we describe and communicate these mathematics to each other. The universe operates by its own mathematical rules, these are the one truly universal language, even if the symbols might differ from place to place. This is why there are often near-simultaneous discoveries of math in different places of the world.

Guys you have to reveal new more deep science of phenomenons, as Math cannot be prime for original elementals. Of course you can project ethics on logic and decode fear through music, octaves and finally math formula, but it’s nothing to do with this elementary particle of “logic” if another particle of “ethics” does not respond to the influence of external phenomenon. That’s why meta science includes all phenomenons that occur in the real world, and it’s obvious current set of science subjects don’t cover all diversity of evolved essences, especially if we are talking about inductive methodology versus deductive. You must find the prime origins, another word. And then reach the edge of the consciousness.

From my experiences I think that mathematical laws of nature are real and existing outside of human mind, and the history is that , we only at some points in time we just come to discovered those laws.

The standard model of particle physics is so ugly. It kind of reminds me of Ptolemaic epicycles, and we know what happened to them. Sooner or later there has to be a breakthrough that simplifies this stuff.

I think certain types of math are invented; When I studied electrical engineering we learned to use things like imaginary numbers and Laplace transforms. This are tools to solve a problem without necessarily having a “real” representation and therefore are in my opinion invented.
Mathematics that describe something real like Newtons laws are discovered because they always have been true.
I’m curious if this can also be applied to things like string theory. Which needs extra dimensions to work and therefore could be tools or invented mathematics. (unless these are later proven to be real)

These guys are completely perplexed by this question. Is math independent of the human constructs of it? Or did humans invent it to describe our world. I still didnt get a clear answer.

Math, in and of itself, is absolutely discovered (as it couldn't have been any other way), but its application to reality is descriptive (unless we really do find an ultimate equation of reality).

This implies determinism/causality. If nature were truly random, then that would be contrary to this hypothesis.
