Is The Apple Lossless (ALAC) Music Format Any Good vs. FLAC?

Thank you sir. You answered my question well. I was going to download an album and it gave me several choices and I wasn’t sure which would work best for me. I have an Apple ecosystem, so AFLAC it is.

Alac is better than flac because the metadata is more stable and it never glitches or gets corrupted. Alac is compatible with itunes; the best media software ever created. Alac is easy to play, even my pentium 4 windows xp machine can play it. ALAC also supports 24bit 48khz audio. I hope this format becomes more mainstream, for the benefit of humanity.

Hi, thank you for a very informative video! I wonder if you are able to help me with this query. I am planning to purchase a Cambridge Audio streamer / DAC to use in a hifi system with floor-standing speakers. The streamer will play music from an external hard drive. However, looking at the new lossless, hi-res files downloaded in Apple Music via streaming (i.e. not purchased in the old iTunes), the files are labeled .movpkg. Streamer specs do not include playing this type of file, but will play FLAC and ALAC? Is ALAC the same as .movkpg? The reason this is important to me is that I will not be able to plug an ethernet cable directly into the streamer, and with streaming over wifi allegedly not as good sound quality wise, I would like to download my Apple Music playlists onto an external hard drive, then move that drive to the streamer. My hifi system is in a different room to my computer and Internet cabling ... Any thoughts would be appreciated?

Hi there, thanks for your great content as always! Btw, i've just switched from Tidal to Apple Music since it's cheaper and currently support Lossless which is ALAC codec. But is there any quality loss when i use Apple Music on my Android phone with Bluetooth Dac/Amp Qudelix 5K (LDAC on)?. Can you explain please, i do appreciate it!

Is it possible to burn CD’s to ALAC file and transfer to iPhone? Will the quality still be the same?

Can wav play on ipod classic?

ALAC is great, files are a little bit bigger than flac but I think it's easier to decode than flac, less cpu usage. Airplay uses it natively too.

i like wav or aiff more but i’ll take alac over flac

You know Apple Music won’t work on any 3rd party streamers, right? It’s useless. Apple is only doing this to counteract the upcoming Spotify lossless.
