How do we clean the pan after using it to cook stuff? And do we have to coat it with oil and bake it again after washing it?
ОтветитьI sat down with my 7yo to figure out how to fix our skillet & he goes "rusty ass hoe" 🫣😅😬
ОтветитьI know this is an older video and props to Joshua...but does anyone know if the curing process at 500 F causes smoke? I live in an apartment and would rather not sound the smoke alarms!
ОтветитьI still think lard or crisco works best
ОтветитьMy daughter put mine in the dishwasher.
ОтветитьHmm..did the cast iron become sticky when you touch it? I mean after finish the seasoning? Because mine got somthing like sticky touch feel like touch grease oil or something like that.. im surrender to used cast iron.😅😅😅
ОтветитьYeah I just brought all of my father in-laws cast irons back to life and he said that they are mine now since im the "chef" of the family ❤️
ОтветитьBruh you have the forearm of someone whos used cast iron since birth
ОтветитьI have my mom's cast iron pans which were her mother's. So that's 3 generations we've been holding onto the same cast iron pans and yes, there's still good.
ОтветитьI would need granite cookery
ОтветитьI'm pretty sure my great grandmother didn't have many of those items to clean and season her cast iron. Maybe the steel wool. She cooked on a wood burning stove and her seasoning oils were as follows. Bacon grease, lard, fried chicken skin and if she was lucky, grandpa brought home a wild turkey. All these store bought oils are nice and might be easier to use, but my go to for seasoning a new pan or reseasoning one I got from a garage sale...one pound of hickory smoked bacon and a package of boneless chicken thighs. Do not remove the skin. And all I have to worry about is a heart attack as I'm wolfing it down.
ОтветитьI wanto ask after 6 times seasoning after the cooking and washing i have to get dry the pan and add a thin layer of oil??
I mean if i wash the pan and and just dry it with some paper and leave this get rusty?
What if I don’t have an oven? How can I season my cast iron with a stove top
ОтветитьI cannot afford kids nor pets, and my house is too dark for plants. Thus, my two cast iron pans are my babies
ОтветитьJust say “I’ll be back” 👓
ОтветитьWhat about cleaning it after cooking? I guess no dish soap? Just hot water and wipe it off?
ОтветитьNEVER USE FLAXSEED OIL IT IS POISON
ОтветитьShould not look rusty ... Properly cleaned iron will look dark grey/dark silver. Still rust looking means more scrubbing
ОтветитьThe stiffest bristle attachment for an electric drill works well for this. My hands are toast after an accident and This is one of the more successful adaptations I’ve found.
ОтветитьToo much work. Take it to a shop that rebuilds precision machinery and have them blast it with crushed nut shells, dry ice, or soda. NOTHING ELSE! Might cost you ten, twenty bucks but it will NOT damage the iron like sandpaper or steel wool. Then follow with your favorite seasoning methods. Thank me later.

ОтветитьThis video frequently takes word-for-word Sheryl Canter’s blog post on pan seasoning, down to the fundamental structure of the tutorial.
In the description you claim you “have to credit some of the knowledge to her” but that seems like a massive understatement for just narrating her writing.
Orbital sander to get it down to raw if it’s real bad.
ОтветитьDo you have to let the Pan cool for each seasonong step? Or can you reapply the oil and keep the pan going in the oven for each additional seasoning step?
ОтветитьGot a small one from my grandmothers brother (decades old thing) and last christmas I got a brand new one! Haven't used any other pan since I got that one. Cast iron is the best
ОтветитьIf you sand the inside with 80 grit and then 120 grit first, you will get a smooth finish. Then go through your seasoning process. This will make it really non stick
Ответитьdude my grandma would tell ya NOTHING but lard or crisco touches a cast iron pan, c'mon now TRADITION!!!!
ОтветитьBe warned, this stinks up the house so bad!!! And the smoke is burning my eyes!!! Stay tuned on whether my little house gets on fire. I should've done this outside.
ОтветитьI actually find the very best seasoning for any cast iron. New or not, is COOK IN IT! Lots of bacon especially a
Ответитьlater gator
Ответить"Check ya later" anyone know that?
ОтветитьI tried this… my smoke alarm has been going off non stop for 30 minutes
ОтветитьI know alot of rusty höêz
ОтветитьDude step back from the camera, no need to be that close.
ОтветитьI was taught to warm the cast iron before applying oil so the pores are open to accept the oil.
Ответитьjust got my first one, cant wait to season it and make some steak!!! Thanks Josh
ОтветитьWhen I seasoned it it became sticky!!
ОтветитьNobody told me it would start smoking in the oven 😭 my damn fire alarm is 8 feet off the ground and would not shut off for 30 min…needless to say, my apartment complex hates me
Ответитьcan you use olive oil for the oil
ОтветитьJesus loves us all
ОтветитьWished I caught this before throwing my skillet out! It was really bad... didn't believe I could revive it... now I wonder about it.
ОтветитьBut do you season it multiple times on both sides?
ОтветитьOne of the reasons why I love cast iron pans, compared to other pans they actually gets better with age.
As long as you don't do something like melt heavy and toxic metals in them (which is very popular, melting lead in cast iron pans is very common, so careful with pre-owned pans) they are basically indestructible.
I inherited some cast iron that is 120+ years old from my grandparents when they passed away several years back. They are seriously caked with what I can only think is decades of cooking on them and layer upon layer of seasoning.. it's not all rust, though there is some, and the rust has gone away for the most part after using the 1 hour soak method you mentioned.. but the thick grime, I cannot get it off.. I have scrubbed for nearly an hour and am barely making ANY progress.. do you have any tips to get the layered grime off of the cast iron?
Ответитьfrom a scientific viewpoint you were able to fix this rust because it was just surface rust, true bad rust starts on the inside out and never stops. there is a reason people call it "cancer"
Ответитьthere are more maintenance, as others said but indestructible when taken care of
ОтветитьNew Sub! I have been watching this video for three years. Sad. I know. I finally got the nerve to clean mine. I give up. I’m going for it!
Ответитьhow often do you have to do this process?
