I have gone to latex. They feel better at absorbing bumps. Don't know about speed/effort.
BUT need a blemish free interface with tyre and rim tape. I have had 2 mock punctures just from inperfect rim tape and slight twist causing pinching. So super catefull fitting.
I went from gatorskins with butyl tubes to tubeless gp5000s tr tyres a few weeks ago, on the same rims, seen a saving of around 15-20W at 30kph
ОтветитьSeems like rolling resistance might be different on a real road? or even different on different road surfaces?
ОтветитьFinally a test from GCN where variables are held to a minimum!! Well done!
ОтветитьI upgraded my bike from cheap, noname tyres and butyl innertubes to Gatorskins with latex innertubes - not only are the tyres actually round so the bike has stopped bouncing, I also increased my average speed by about 3km/h on my 10km commute... Well spent 60£!
ОтветитьTnx, I'm buying new tyres as my first upgrade to my road bike.
Ответитьwill this fit a 6'4" man?
ОтветитьMy question might sound stupid but what is exactly a "premium" tire? I have recently ordered "Continental Grand Prix 4-season 700c*28" for my bike. But I'm starting to think that I made the wrong decision. I use my bike for racing in mostly dry conditions. Does this tire lower my performance? By the looks of it, it's more similar to the budget tire you were testing.
ОтветитьWow! So, 54 watt savings with latex tubes and tyres?! I’m hitting up Amazon now for a faster ride. Definitely trying and thanks!
ОтветитьBest upgrade to my bike was going to larger Corsa tires, with Latex tubes and lower tire pressure.
ОтветитьThey charge more for a bicycle tyre than an entire car tyre though hahahaha
ОтветитьOther reviews, and TPU tube manufacturers, say that TPU has a (slightly) lower rolling resistance than latex. Could that be due to open road testing Vs this video's indoor roller?
ОтветитьForgot to say that latex tubes have to be filled before each ride... Huge annoyance and deal breaker for med. TPU > lightweight butyl > latex
ОтветитьIs it the latex inner tubes are always more efficient than the butyl even at the same psi or is it just that you can pump latex up to higher psi?
ОтветитьI’m definitely going to get new tires and tubes for my next race
Ответитьpremium tyre,tubeless is the way..
ОтветитьYou used a tubeless ready tire for the upgrade. If you are using tubes, don’t use tubeless ready tires. They are heavier and have more rigid sidewalls. Probably even more difference if you used a high end clincher/ non-tubeless ready.
ОтветитьInteresting information, but the music in the very middle made me wanna stab myself in the ears. May we next time be more fortunate, at copyright-free-music-lucky-dip. That aside: Thanks so much for the great content and greetings from Germany :)
ОтветитьKeep the Eurobike jokes coming!
ОтветитьTyres are the most important upgrade. I insisted my friend change out his no-brand tyres for a pair of Conti GP5000. He went from 1 km/h slower than me to 1 km/h faster than me.
ОтветитьGreat video. It was a rainy day yesterday and I traded out my 40 mm types with butyl tubes for a TPU and 28mm continental grant prix's. So this helps me see what I might expect when the rain finally stops. A key question is how much is the tire/tube compare to wind resistance. I don't have a wind tunnel at home :)
ОтветитьFor me the biggest diff is the feel.. I always ride latex.. they just feel so much smoother than butyl. Also less punctures.
ОтветитьThat's an incredible amount of what savings from a Budget Tire to a race Tire. Out of honestly only figured a few Watts that's incredible! Thanks Alex
ОтветитьWhat about a comparison using 29 x 2.35 mountain bike tires? So much road bike bias.
Ответитьthanks guys !!! thanks to you i'm just gonna upgrade my tires to train for my 100km rides on my hardtail ! and me thinking the only way to enjoy those rides would be by buying a gravel bike ... 😅😅😅😅 much ❤ you guys !!!
ОтветитьTheoretically would you save more watts out on the road as then the front tyre's rolling resistance (even if it less than rear's) would come into play as well? Would the rougher surface of the road make rolling resistance more or less important? How about tyre width?
ОтветитьBLOODY STUPID ANNOYING BACKGROUND MUZAK
Ответитьjust went from michelin country grip r to schwalbe g one speed .
wanted a new bike , got one 😂😂😂😂
all I can recommend is ride 3000 miles with one type and when you switch ,you'll have the best expierence ever ❤❤❤
While tubes probably helped a little - on dont think tyre comparison makes sense. nobody will use this budget noname tyre on any decent road bike. It would be better to compare this expensive pirelli with something like cheap michelins.
ОтветитьOnly one thing was missed:
Tubeless.
So that really means, if you race, you need 2 wheel sets, one for training, which has cheapo tires and tubes, and then another set for race day, with the expensive tires and tubes...... 😁
ОтветитьPerhaps you should have a word with tyre manufacturers, Continental tyres are a nightmare to find the rotational direction arrow on the sidewalls. Why don’t they colour it so it’s more easily identifiable.
ОтветитьEvery tpu tube I’ve tried has burst for no reason at all so no thank you
ОтветитьGot to lose weight first before ever thinking about going for a ride
ОтветитьHow can changing the inner tube reduce rolling resistance? It's the same tire and the same air pressure.
ОтветитьI am late to the party... I just set my base time on my standard loop (40km) with my BMC Granfondo on Shimano RS11 wheels and Conti Ultra Sport. I am upgrading to Mavic Ksyrium Equipe S wheels and Conti GP 5000... I am not changing inner tubes.
ОтветитьI installed Pirelli TPU Innertubes to improve my bike. But because of them, the tires became non-round and the bike began to jump like a horse. I had to return the butyl tubes.
ОтветитьAwesomeness, upgrading tires and tubes in 3, 2, 1…
ОтветитьWill this be any good when you ride indoors on a perfectly flat surface?
ОтветитьHowever...
ОтветитьWhy not compare the PZeros to Pirelli’s budget option, the P7?
ОтветитьWeight saving on the wheel would also matter. I am a bit late but have just started to use premium tyre and tpus. Tpus r now cheaper
ОтветитьHow is it possible for a tube inside the tire to reduce or increase rolling resistance? Please explain. The tube is stationary.
ОтветитьBought Vittoria Rubino Pro Control 25mm the other day. What a downgrade. Slowest tires I have ever ridden in the last 35 years.
ОтветитьGreat video. It would be cool to compare a road bike tire with a fatter tire to see the speed difference.
ОтветитьAs I was watching the video something interesting came to my mind. Doesn't this test setup amplify the rolling resistance, because the rear wheel has two instead of one contact point with the ground, resulting in skewed results?
ОтветитьGp5000 or the race tlr?
ОтветитьHow do you know what a "premium" tire is?
ОтветитьHave you upgraded your tyres and inner tubes? Will you now after watching this video?
Ответить
