Listening this and Eddie Money’s I Wanna Go Back, it kinda hurts because I’m the last remaining member of my old high school group of friends who have disbanded either by sudden death or moving and turning their back on me, luckily I have a new group of friends

This song is inspired by Rick Hansen a paraplegic man who rode his wheelchair across Canada. In devotion to Terry Fox. Inspiration and dedication to a dream.

Ill tell you what the 80s was, we were the land of the free people of the world, half the world lived under the tyranny of the Marxists, there was no spread racism, not in media culture, we all laughed and loved Eddie, loved louis Gosset and Richard prior, all the Jacksons, the Cosby show was the most popular on TV, we lived in the dream of emerging technology, we could only imagine what computers would do. we sent probes to through out the solar system, there was incredible optimism, music was in a golden age, Queen, G and R, Van Halen, AC DC, we made iconic movies that are still with us, star wars, Indian jones, terminator, Alien, Predator, top gun etc., and we try and copy and rewrite them today, women and men still dated because we believed in a future with each other, some where we lost it all. I'm not saying this because I lived it, and i want you all to feel that. it was beautiful.

Lyrics :
Growin' up, you don't see the writing on the wall
Passin' by, movin' straight ahead, you knew it all
But maybe sometime if you feel the pain
You'll find you're all alone, everything has changed

Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner and you're tryin' to break free

I can see a new horizon underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need's this pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's fire (Ooh, oooh, oooh)

Burning up, don't know just how far that I can go
(Just how far I go)
Soon be home, only just a few miles down the road
I can make it, I know, I can
You broke the boy in me but you won't break the man

I can see a new horizon underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need's this pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's fire

I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea
I can feel St. Elmo's fire burnin' in me, burnin' in me

Just once in his life a man has his time
And my time is now, I'm coming alive

I can hear the music playin', I can see the banners fly
Feel like you're back again, and hope ridin' high
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need's this pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's fire

Elmo's fire burnin' in me
Burnin', burnin' in me, I can feel it burnin'
St. Elmo's fire, St. Elmo's fire

Listen to and watch this most days. Every time I do, I always think it's a young Mel Gibson singing in the video 😅
However, this is one of very few songs that makes me feel a bit sad, very happy and that I can achieve anything I want, all at the same time! Such an awesome song.

I only found out today that this song was written about Rick Hansen, a Canadian paraplegic man who circled the globe in his wheelchair, averaging 85km per day. The Man in Motion Tour raised millions for spinal cord research and quality of life initiatives for people with disabilities. It was inspired by the great Terry Fox, whose run across Canada (with a prosthetic leg) was tragically cut short when his cancer spread and took his young life. These men are amazing icons of strength and fortitude and this song is such a fitting tribute!

And on top of that, we had John Parr's entire library of huge hit songs!!
