Never go to a dealership, period. Nothing but a bunch of greedy money grabbing crooks. They are not there for your help for the best deals. I wouldn't even deal with this person in the video.

Came here to say this popped up in my feed 2 weeks ago, and just last week i purchased a new rav4 hybrid -- i was on the degrnsive the whole time and my dealer never tried probing until we test drove and sat down to talk deal. Maybe he just knew i wasnt gonna give in with how vague i was when i told him what i wanted and no context added lol

i wish i had a very well trained car salesman... 99% of them in my area are gofers... they know nothing about the cars, and all they do is ask their sales manager what to do next.

I'm a religious Jew so I went to the Honda dealership near the Jewish community on Friday a few hours before sundown. They knew no matter what I was leaving to be home before the start of the Sabbath. They knew I wasn't coming back on Saturday & local laws keep dealerships closed on Sundays. When my friend & I were unhappy with the deal we kept saying to each other, "It's getting late. We can always come back on Monday." Of course the salesman didn't want to risk me not coming back for days so the deal kept getting better & better. I left about an hour before sundown with a great deal on a great car.

Honestly, these videos do nothing but hype car salesmen to be smarter than they are, and to make people be more afraid of purchasing a vehicle than they need to be. Math has been the same for THOUSANDS of years, and all the information you need to make an informed purchase is right at your fingertips. The only person you SHOULD be afraid of in these transactions is YOU - if you go to a dealership unprepared and are afraid to ask about the numbers UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND THEM, then how would you know what kind of deal you're getting?

Lol! Ok.. here’s how you buy a car. #1 known which specific car you want to buy! #2 get your financing with a credit union BEFOREHAND. #3 YOU tell the dealer what you will pay for the car! Offer them the financing ONLY if they can beat the financing deal you already have. To figure out what you will pay go online and get three different appraisals for the car you have selected from 3 different sources. I average them together and that’s my number. Add $1000 for title and tags and that’s your maximum out the door price. If they don’t like it, walk away. I have never failed to get the car I wanted with this method, and while it doesn’t get you the very best deal you can get it WILL keep you from getting ripped off

Here’s my response to a car salesman about junk fees: “ When I sell my house, at settlement I don’t tack on “reconditioning fees” for all the repairs, a “scotch guard” fee for cleaning the Berber rug in the den, and a “nitrogen fee” for the gas in the double paned windows. All that is included in the price of the house.”

Thanks much for the advice, but I’d have to pass on any counsel about making a car look hideous that you might wanna waste time making. Hahaha! Just joking ‘cause I had to get you back for that Amazon notification, although, as a retired ad prof from U of Texas, it’s f’in brilliant. Dastardly subconscious move with just the right amount of humor to defuse any anger it might ‘cause, in my opinion. Would love to run a psych experiment about it, but, again, retired...

My husband recently has a dealership try to rob him on a trade in. He would giving him his mint truck and paying them to take it.
They also wanted to hold on to his keys.
He told them this wasn’t his first rodeo, and started walking.
They again asked him for his keys and trying to explain themselves and how he was coming in on top with their sale and trade in.
He told them once again if they weren’t going to play fair, he was walking.
He walked.

Doesn’t work that way. The profit margins are roughly sixes across vehicles. It’s really how much gross they can hold and selling you a nicer vehicle isn’t going to make them more money. Selling you a vehicle with the least discount possible is how they make money on you, plus money from the financing.

Actually, when I see someone I'm attracted to, I don't know what to say. I just tell them they are beautiful and that I want their number. Hasn't really worked but then again, that's an impossible task anyway. It's difficult to keep their attention.

This always could potentially waste tremendous amount of the customers and salespeople’s time. Most people have no clue on math when it comes to financing. Example a $30,000 car cannot produce a $350 payment with 0 down.

I LOVE car shopping and doing a deal. It often takes me three to five visits to the dealer. I NEVER buy on the first visit; I ALWAYS walk out politely at least one time. I ALWAYS offer a price for which I am prepared to accept. I often fail to make the deal I like on a particular vehicle. Don't fall in love with any rolling money pit before getting a price that you are willing to pay.

Start off by telling any salesman that they are just salesmen and they are going to try to get the most money out of you, no matter what and if they ask another double dealing line again, stop them by saying "here you go again", make them know you are in charge not them. Even accuse them of shady tactics, out loud, looking straight in their eyes!
The best deal I ever got was on a New Motorbike back in 2000, the bike was up for £9,100, I ended up paying £5,900 including a £500 alarm and fitting.
The worse thing he said to me was "Oh, no, I can't go that low, I'll be losing all my commission", my answer was, I don't care about your commission, I just want to pay what the bike's worth, not pay for your Summer Holiday! He was stunned! I kept him dealing with me for three hours and his fellow salesman were walking past him, patting him on the back, in commiseration!
Why are you willing to give up your hard earned cash. Fight for it! My wife had to walk outside because it was getting too much for her, either thinking it funny or getting embarrassed!

Another trick they try is to ask how much you owe on your trade. I had one dealer give me that EXACT amount. The dealership managed to get that info without me disclosing it. They also ran my credit and started a credit app. When I did purchase a car at another dealership for $3K less on a $20K car, it took 3 days to get the first dealership to stop the loan I never even applied for. Another tip - do the math if they offer a rebate or low interest financing. I was able to get better financing through my own bank and take the rebate. Salesman want you to take their financing because they make more money that way.

Best purchase I ever made was after I did a lot of online research myself. found the vehicle, researched the value and then contacted my local dealer to get it. So much easier than that all day BS you go thru when you don't know what you want and you don't know where to go and you don't know how much you want to pay for it. GET ONLINE and do your research!! Worst experience was when I spent ALL day at a dealership and was ready to walk. I told them to give me my keys back (they took my car to evaluate it). Then things changed quickly. I got the car at the price I originally told them I was willing to pay! All that song and dance and we could've handled it in 20 minutes.

Lotta dumb advice in these comments. Dont let yourself be treated poorly, and also dont assume anything. Car salesmen are mostly just guys with a boring job that have to make money on commission. The vast majority arent predators, but they might work for one.
