Here's Why HDR Games Look 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥 if Your TV Supports HGiG/ Tone-Mapping Off

I'm playing Alan Wake 2 and Spiderman 2 right now in HGiG and it looks great but in like 90% of the games HGiG is just too dim on my LG CX. I prefer DTM most of the time

For those who have LG OLED C1, do you use DTM ON or HGiG on spider-man 2?

If metadata is available, does display tonemapping outrank other source based tone mapping? mpv has tons of controls regarding this, comparison would be interesting.

I need to look at my settings. On my C9 with Spider-Man 2 on PS5, hgig/tone mapping off (identical in appearance) is SO much dimmer than dynamic tone mapping on

Am I the only one who thinks hgig sucks. It makes the image so dim and reduces all the colors. I have an LG C2 and hgig is so much worse than the dynamic setting for HDR.

It might look closer to the intended image but the intended image is dim and colorless. I honestly don’t think it is a good feature

So on my Sony it's probably better to not choose for gradation or brightness preferred, but just off when it comes to HDR tone mapping?

I've always found HGiG to be too dim.
Probably gonna just continue to use DTM On and adjust to personal flavor as needed (LG C3)

Im confused because my LG CX show HGiG as an option under DTM menu, so is HGiG a sort of DTM type and needs to be turned off or the opposite and it should be on during PS5 OS HDR calibration? Thank you!

I have my lg oled hooked up to my pc and it's awesome. I use a 12gb pny 3080 as it's ample for speed and quality even in cyberpunk and star shield

Man I tried HGIG on my PS5 with my C2 and it’s so freaking dark

still on lge9 because that tv is lg's masterpiece. i really like the setting you recommend but man i dont like the fact that hgig is way, way to dark thats the only downside of hdr game mode with hgig. games look so much better if played on lets say hdr isf expert(bright/dark room). the gamma adjustment helps a little but there must be a way around, so tv amd console/pc work with eachother not just one side. i mean all those settings for nothing?! ps: my tv isnt calibrated yet.
