I used this module to DM my first session today. Got to minute 10 and I've already fucked up 5 or 6 details 😞
But the players had fun and I went with the flow a bit.. had a giant fight in the water cave between wolves and all the govlins it was a slaughter and then they negotiated with Klarg to let him go if he didn't bother them further.
But I like the official version too, I should have searched your video earlier, so far it's great insight on what and how I could have done

this is a great video explaining everything about the campaign in detail for dms running. however he does add in situations that are not technically part of the module. examples: the wraith doesn't attack if your rude or aggressive, she just disappears. the doors in tresendar manor are unlocked unless stated otherwise, there is no trap on the main door and the door to area 3 is just a door. However they can add to and spice up the campaign, they just arent actually part of the module. Still good though

Agreed, this is a good overview and as an experienced DM, I can see how and where to tweak things for my DM style.

Subbing now. Really enjoy this as a new DM - straight and too the point while giving enough detail to really help the noobies like myself. I know they're less popular but... I recently purchased Tales from the Yawning Portal, and Candlekeep mysteries. I would love to see you break down the stand alone adventures in those book. Keep up the great content!

Should I tell the players the backstory from the beginning or keep it a secret for now? Do I show them the main map?

Waaaa thank you! I am a new DM, with a brand new group of players. I offered to be DM since while I have never played, I am the most experienced, having watched some campaigns before. As much as I am loving the idea, having to read the whole booklet while taking notes is soooooo boring and tiring, while this helps a lot. Now I just take notes while stopping. It did take more than expected (20 minutes for five minutes of video 💀), but it's much more dynamic and engaging for me (I have lots of trouble focusing), and the thought that all I will need to do is add a couple post it notes to fill in the gaps is amazing and makes it all less daunting

Suggestion: put on 1.25 playback speed. It just makes it more efficient.

I have never played DnD but i am super interested in it and finally managed to convince my friends to play, but now i have to DM, and since i know nothing I've been doing crazy research hoping to learn as much as possible and manage to run the game and tonight we'll finally be starting our first run and I'm not sure whether I'm more excited or nervous that I'll fail.

I’m about to try and dm for the first time and this will be what I’ll try to pitch to my normal party to dm for. It will be a side campaign for my normal party for when people can’t make it to give our normal dm a break. Thank you very much for helping make this seem manageable.
