Spray Painting a Mechanical Keyboard!

yep, small audio mistake in clear coat bit. anyway, bit of a long vid, because I didn't want to speed up the spraying bits so that it's easier to understand (for the case bit).

Planning to paint the base of my kb and not the keycaps. I have primer, the color I want, and a matte clear coat. I'm about to kinda follow these steps. Will the paint last long as for the base?

this video is horrible there's better videos out there that show you how to treat aluminum and they will tell you what properties of aluminum makes it difficult to paint. look up tutorials on how to paint aluminum. sand, base coat, have it in a dry and hot place so the chemicals can evaporate after a few days from all the coats. this is why spraypainted stuff smells horribly for weeks if you don't let all the chemichals evaporate from it.

pls don't listen to influencers and hobbyists that don't know what they're doing. or suit yourself.

How do you know the caps?

How durable is the key paint? I have an MX Keys keyboard which has backlit keys, but many keys show symbols for both Mac and PC.
So I figured Id blot out the Mac backlit symbols using grey enamel paint. This works well initially, but the paint soon wears off after just a few weeks. Looking for something more permanent thanks

All I can think is, this can't be good for the environment. Is this stuff biodegradeable?

We have to wait for it to dry a lot of times, but how do you know when it's dry each time?

Some clear coats will be very aggressive on your paints and make them peel up if you don't give enough time to dry.

How long does spray paint last generally?

To avoid droplets and uneven spraying, shake it like there is no tomorrow, and then do a few short burst away from your target to prime the nozzle, then while painting do short fast burst taking care not to overlay the paint in each pass to avoid unnecessary build up. Adam Savage has a good display technique and explanation on some of his one day build videos.

Nice video. But you must action the can before passing above the object you want to paint. This way you will avoid an excess of painting at the beginning of your movement.
