Car tracking: Apple AirTag v Samsung SmartTag+ v GPS comparison review: Which is best?

Just a note regarding ‘Lost Mode’ on the Apple AirTag. A few people mentioned that it improves accuracy - it actually doesn’t help find the device. Lost mode enables an NFC message for when somebody finds an AirTag with your details. Given the nature of the AirTag, it has no internet connection until an Apple device is near it, so it would never be able to receive a command to improve its accuracy until another device was near at, at which point it would relay its location regardless.

I would imagine professional thieves would know exactly how to disable a car's built-in tracking.

Would be interesting if all Android manufacturers agree on a norm for these trackers they would obliterate apple's airtag

Chances are excellent that the person who stole your car will have a cell phone.

I'm still learning, but I believe one or more of the tag trackers can use either Apple or Samsung/Droid? networks.

If the airtag is not found it is because there are no Iphone arround. And We, apple people will not go with Samsung just because the tag is better. But i'm sceptical about you test. Maybe in you area there are more android that IOS

That’s not a true valuation. It does depend on what’s around in phones wise. There could be a few less phones in a particular area, as in they all could be at the cafe or at a game or not very adventurous.

What is the maximum coverage? It said, 120M, if so how can you track the car or whereabout the car?

Cost ? Battery lasts ? Weather protection ?

The Samsung SmartTag+ should also have the option to find the tag using AR using the camera.

My experience is the tile is a piece of crap. You can't find your phone after it's gone to sleep. After several weeks of fighting with it it quit finding my keys. It's a rip-off don't buy

So it seems I am a bit slow with catching up on older vids. My question (as an Apple user). Would the tags (apple and android) still use my phone to track if the personal privacy settings are settings are on paranoid?

Can someone recommend a good tracking device that will show accurately where the car is. I bought Tiles pro but they stop working the minute you go any further than 100 meters out.

Wait, what brand is the third device, 'gps lte'? I can't find it in a google search (maybe b/c gps and lte are generic technologies...)

what if a phone picks up the location within a place with no signal, then travels further. will it transfer the location later, ones it has Signal again ?

The thing about airtags for me is that if someone steals the item you're tracking and they have an iPhone, it will notify them that there is an airbag following them. I'd rather they not know that I have a tracking device hidden.

the test is bull sh@t - the samsug kept saying spotted by a nearby samsung galaxy device - its simple the auzzies are tight buying iPhone getting cheaper samsung instead lol

The airtag also contains a speaker, and if your item returns to the home or regularly visited location of someone who doesn't own it Apple send them a message informing them a tag is following them and a link to make it chirp. This makes it easy to find and useless as a tracker because by the time you get close enough to fine tune it's location by bluetooth they'll have destroyed it. You need to remove that speaker so it can't betray it's location . Better still use 2, one silenced, then the robber can get the message, find the chirping airtag and assume they're safe while the other continues to grass them up.

Why don't people just buy a $30 track phone, setup a gmail account, setup timeline tracking and now you can record audio AS WELL AS the GPS location of the phone? Just wrap/tape the phone to a portable charger and you're good to go for days. It also updates like every 10 seconds or faster. Basically live and VERY accurate.

The apple airtag on my car will go hours without updating. No too confident in its ability as a tracker for stolen cars.

Why even bring up the jammer, as if you want to aid thieves. Ignoring that very informational video.

Remember that it isn't just yhe number of devices nearby, it is the number of enabled devices.

Maybe more apple devices were disabled explaining the poorer performance.

I wish all android companies can come together and implement this. It's kind of useful feature.... where you can strap one of these to your wife to find her in the mall or to your kids.

Im sure the people that steal you car or caravan have their phones with them so they are relaying the signal 4 ya all the time the dopes 😅

All of these devices are easily beaten by 30$ signal jammers. My friend had his WB redeye Hellcat stolen less tjan a month after he got it and his air tag didn't produce a signal. These companies just want you to buy their products, folks. My boy never got his Hellcat back.

Those need to be charged and if left unattended in a secret spot it’ll be dead the day you need it.

My friend found his stolen car in the US because of an Airtag. Anything is better than nothing sometimes.
