I respectfully disagree with the respected colonel mustard. I believe it was Miss Scarlet in the study.

There is no sense of scale. That vegetation could be trees, which would make the snake 100 ft long. Or it could be tufts of grass, which would make the snake 1 ft long.

As a survivor of the jungle I can confirm no one else has ever spotted a snake this large.

I don't think so.

I think it could be titanobao because titanobao needs high temperature and Africa is best place for hot climate

The locals of the Congo have always spoken of snakes almost 100ft long as well as the J’ba Fofi. Spiders that look like tarantulas but measured over 5ft in width. And when you think that over half the Congo is still unexplored, (that is the size of France) you have to wonder what the heck is in that rain forest?

I would love for it to be the real deal and maybe it is, but the problem with this picture is there's nothing to use for scale in the photo so you can't rule out that this might be a close up photo of a much smaller snake or even a very close up picture of a worm and those are small patches of grass and plant material instead of bushes and trees. Not saying that's the case but if you got some 1950s camera equipment and took a slightly blurred photo from above I'm betting you could make it look very similar. Someone should experiment with that

They’re no boa’s in Africa, so it has to be a undiscovered species of python

The report also claimed that snake emerged from a tunnel. It’s fascinating to think about how large the underground rivers systems of the Congo are. Sounds like perfect place for a giant to live and thrive.

It was confirmed that the Colonel was not good at measuring, this snake went from 100' to 50' and then to 40'. His girlfriend at the time confirmed this as he had told her his man unit was a full 12 inches in length, when if fact it was barley 5 inches. So there ya have it. Oh and the gf was well respected.

Very possible, 70 years ago....DRC was still quite unexplored....so urbanization would not have affected the snakes natural habitat.....

This snake probably had a good food supply and no threats.....
However a few decades later with mining wars and land clearly could have forced these snakes to be smaller or wiped them out completely

Did it cross anyone’s mind to do a grid of the map and get to interview the natives living in the vicinity? Wouldn't it have gone down as a given that they (the natives) would've run into something of the kind while it roamed their neighbourhood growing fat on their livestock and farm animals, and possibly humans too?!

It’s a small surviving species of titanaboa. The snake did used to exist and all the reports say it’s the exact same size. When you look at the picture it’s totally believable that this is a titanoboa.

Rock Python seems unlikely IMO as it's way out of the normal size range for the species . So I'm going to go with an as of yet undiscovered species . Why no one has ever gone there to investigate I don't know . I mean yes this specimen is dead by now but there very well could be others like it there .
