I think he is the artist, and is trapped within himself. It's a visual representation of his mind. Each painting depicts that very thing. The artist became the artwork in itself. He became his own final masterpiece.

Good movie and great explanation here. I like how the narrator leaves it up to the viewer to decide whether he dies or lives. The movie is much more beautiful if he dies. In my opinion that was his escape. His soul leaves through the light.

I don’t think we can draw any conclusion other than that he escaped. There were no clues of his death.
But, throughout, I assumed the ending would reveal this entire experience was an elaborate ruse, a construction of ‘art’ in and of itself. That the process was recorded, and the ‘exhibits’ Nemo created were ‘art,’ as well. Because: it seems unimaginable that the alarms did not alert police, building security, or the owner. The flooded home did not leak to units below, or notify the fire department. Both are ridiculous. One does not construct a fortress—a safe repository for valuable art like that without provision for alerting responders.

Worst movie I have ever wasted my time watching. I like Defoe but this movie is the slowest most boring thing I have watched.And I kept waiting for a big ending and it was a total flop.

Nemo gives us his journey

I mean when people are dying there’s the “ don’t go into the light” saying. And at the end he literally went into the light while on the brink of death. So who knows if he died or made it out

Through being trapped, Nemo created his own art works that he would never become famous nor profit greatly from. I see this film as symbolism for artists that some people say have been exploded after their deaths with their works selling for millions, when in their lifetime they never saw any financial stability or fame.

I'm never going to look at scores of movies again before watching them.
It's a bit shallow, but I tend to rate movies based on ratings, If I did that with this one, I probably wouldn't watch it.
So glad I didn't, I loved the movie.

He finally escaped through the skylight but left a nice note and saved the best of the "art".

I think this was a movie about finding the self. The self portrait being how we view ourselves, the painting of the owner surrounded by sex (depicting the temptations that fog our minds), the owner representing the devil, the daughter and dog representing family or self love or self acceptance etc. just analyze the paintings within and relate to the idea of seeking happiness or peace which is the self or enlightenment depending where u are coming from.

My interpretation is maybe he got out and is enlightened by his experience but he still broke into that dudes house and left a literal pile of crap along with everything else of his bodily essence so I don't think he has long before the police take him downtown.

I think it was just garbage 😊. It's not about anything other than a guy slowly dying and suffering alone trapped in a situation he can't control.

My thoughts. Its not a heist movie movie or dangers of AI. He’s an artist searching for his masterpiece. possibly the self portrait? The portrait could literally be of him or his greatest work. Which would, in his mind, lead him to greatness. The movie is his decent into madness while thinking about or creating this piece. The apartment is him trapped in his own mind. This is why no one comes when he sets off multiple alarms. Dreams, hallucinations and recreating his own art over and over and never having a new idea. Trying to find the portrait is a metaphor of searching for himself. The ending is him either ascending out of madness or descending further into it. It’s up to the viewer to decide.

My theory is that the penthouse was designed intentionally to be like a prison. I mean, what other buildings are hermetically sealed like that?
Unbreakable windows, no phones or landline, no gaps under the front door, no cameras- and no alarms for when the smoke alarm goes off?
If a penthouse caught fire, I’m pretty sure there’d be emergency services rushing towards it- they wouldn’t just leave it alone.
And I’m sure that there would’ve been someone checking the penthouse to clean it while the owner was absent.

I think it was always meant to be a prison for a potential thief. Maybe he knew someone would try and break in, or maybe he was paranoid enough to prepare his home to be a cage for any thieves.

If you watch all the way to the end of the credits, you can hear Nemo singing "im going to heaven on a hillside", take his last breath, then dies. Im not sure how many people actually stuck around through the credits. I went to the bathroom then heard the dude's voice lol thought someone rewinded to the last portion of it.

He did climb into the light fixture at the end. You see light move within the light fixture as the camera zoomed in. Nothing else would’ve caused that.

The only thing I got out of it was to not be so self obsessed, it will lead you to loneliness and with loneliness comes insanity

the picture with the men on the stairs that "leads to heaven" symbolizes (to me) that these are people are waiting for a plane that will never arrive, aka they won't be going to heaven. they'll be stuck there on the stairs forever waiting for the plane to take them to heaven.

It's an anti Christian movie which steals Christian elements. It's really not that smart like people want to believe.

Nobody makes it to heaven on their own strength.

It was the worst movie I've ever seen. I won't even elaborate on that, got better things to do. I hope I will forget and forgive it.
