Isles need to make moves without a doubt. Not sure if they sign a couple of big time, elite NHL talented players but that’s what they need. Isles need difference maker type of players.

This was them trading up to land either Trevor Connelly Tri-City Storm USHL who will come with a lot of bad publicity but huge skill upside or they were moving up for Michael Hage out of the Chicago Steel USHL. Connelly is on some teams do not draft list for the first round and is going to slip past some teams for PR reasons and locker room presence but the Blackhawks would have no issues taking a chance on him and if he isn’t there they swing on Hage who is a solid pick with a high floor who absolutely will play in the NHL middle 6. Maybe they get lucky and Yakemchuk falls to them but I highly doubt it.

why give up a #2 draft pick just to move up 2 spots..and you dont even know who will be there at 18. heck.....that draft prospect will now cost us a #1 AND a#2 draft pick...and he might have been available at 20...2 spots is not hard to slide to !

If this trade was being made on draft day with specific players falling into place for them, I would understand the Hawks making this trade. But they made this trade well in advance of draft day without knowing who is on the board just a couple spots early in each round. Hawks are in rebuild mode and were horrible last season. I don’t care how “deep” the draft is this year, they need players. This GM lost this trade and the Islanders are much better off.

How can you determine a winner and a loser of a trade of liquid assets this early? 😂

The Hawks aren't looking at this in terms of value for the picks in the second round. They simply can't make all the picks they've accumulated. I wouldn't be surprised if Kyle is putting together a package for an unrestricted free agent.

Kyle Davidson really liked Oliver Moore last year and he tried to move up during the draft and nobody was budging so I think Kyle learned his lesson from that and made the move early

Maybe the Hawks want a guy like Jiricek who's a right handed dman supposed to go in that range and don't feel he'll be there at 20

It’s definitely an odd trade because of the timing. It almost feels like the hawks were worried about being able to afford the one extra pick so they moved up slightly to get some value for a pick they could not financially afford to use.

#61 might be stapled to Anders Lee and bouncing back to Hawks

It seems to me that the Hawks are signaling to the league that they are willing to move up even more, and they are playing with house money, not their own. This is especially evident by how early they made this trade. It is meant to show that they mean business.

This is a good trade for the hawks. This isn’t a deep draft year. I’d rather improve my top 2 picks and give away a borderline 3rd round pick.

The Blackhawks have stock pilled so draft picks and prospects over the last three years that a late second pick doesn't have the same value to them as it might other teams. The Blackhawks did not lose this trade.

I think the Hawks win this trade. They have an abundance of picks, so moving up makes sense.

I can see Chicago thinking one of the more “premier” D prospects (dicksonson, buium, silayev, Yakemchuk, Parekh, Levshunov) could fall and we know for the most part who probably won’t but if Chicago takes Demidov at 2, they have to be either hoping for a free falling D man that should be higher or possibly a Eiserman/Catton drop to 18. Moving 2 spots isn’t huge but Benson fell to 13 last year and most people thought he was almost a guarantee in the top10.

The only way i can see the islanders losing this trade is if the players they draft all end up as busts 5 years later or more, or if the islanders package those pics as a sweetener and end up getting a player that doesnt work out for whatever reasons including injuries. Those count also.

Both teams could lose if chicago also drafts poorly or brings in a player as well.

Or both teams can win. With 1 team being the bigger winner. The point is its wayyyyy too early to say who won this damn trade

Immediately think that Chicago may be trying to inch there way up as trading up from 20 to around the top 10 might not be possible so instead make 1-3 small trades to move up.

Islanders need more premium picks to either trade for an NHL player, improve their weak prospects pool or move that 2nd rounder with to move pagueas contract. As they only have like 5 Mil in cap space.

LOVE THIS TRADE! The team that gets the highest draft pick wins the trade. That easy.

Saying "the Islanders win this trade hands down" is a bit premature, wouldn't you agree?
And immediately giving credit to Lamorello is just ignorant, you said yourself it was almost unheard of, when has Lou ever done anything like this before? While Davidson has been doing out of the box things since day one.
You didn't even mention his name.

Either way Islanders are winners and if Chicago get their guys they both win . It could be either team could use those picks to go bigger still. I like it. Chicago has a lot of picks so it doesn't hurt

Trade next year's "first," for a top five pick in this year's draft; and trade a second-round pick. We would then have the 2nd and 3rd picks, and the 18th pick in this year's draft. Just dreaming.
