he went back to bare metal, then spayed it with primer. this, together with the other 7 odd layers he applied, stops the iron from being exposed to water & oxygen. oxidation takes years, not 30 minutes.

Wait. So after the clear, you let it sit 24h again then you sand and buff? Why do you let the base sit 24h and not use a heat gun to cure it?

Many cars didn't pass rust inspection in Danmark 😢😢...
They made also damages with the hammer with sharp size at the check-ins for inspections to make people to change cars or make new..

Great video! I have a 08 jetta and not looking to get 5 more years out of it. A little rust on rocker panels, so just need a cheap fix. Are these all the Materials required? - Sandpaper $20, Rust inhibitor wd-40 $20, Primer $25, clear coat? Can of spray pant $30?

Worst thing to do is in this vid and I will explain why. You cant completely remove the rust on microscopic level, once the rust starts there is no going back . When you cover the rust with a layer of primer or paint you get it packaged and it starts spreading inwards deeper into the metal and in a few months you will have even more rust on this spot. The best thing to do after sanding the rust is put the primer around it , not on it and put rust-proof oil on it. The oil will slow down the spread of the rust . The best thing to do is put a layer of primer before the rust starts when your car is brand new in order to prevent it from rusting (once a year)or put a layer of a silicone covering (that looks like asphalt) or after your annual rustproofing go on a black road or in some dusty construction side and speed up the car in order to get all the dust,sand and ash to get stuck to the layer of rustproof oil and to package the bottom of your car and isolate it better from moisture.

Q: Why use Primer Filler and not putty then standard primer surfacer?
Q: Why not prime over the spot putty? Is the spot putty base-coat safe?

It looked like the rust had holes going through the metal, so the moment to gets wet all your work is for not. The only way is to cut the rust out weld in new metal. If you don't, it's a waste of time and money.

That'll rust through again in no time!

Shit way to remove the rust it's not all gone it will come back within a year.

I have not watched the presentation, but want to share that there are two types of products that I avoid at the stores:
1) The ones containing the word "cheap" in their name
2) Same thing for "easy" and "quick"

Another bad video on how to treat rust ! 🤦🏻 no mechanical abrasion via wire wheel or flap wheel, no attempt to phosphate the surface before paint and no epoxy primer. I wish the inexperienced would stop posting videos like these 😖

This is useless. I stopped watching when it was clear that no rust neutraliser was going to be applied. It's not enough to just sand the surface rust off. There's still rust in the steel, you can even see it as dark patches against the freshly sanded steel. If this rust isn't neutralised it won't take long before it starts coming through the paintwork again and all that work was for nothing.
