The she/her dude is so annoying. I wish she would just shut up and stop rudely interjecting every sentence.
ОтветитьI wish this podcast was just Justin tbh, I don’t really feel the other two add much if any value.
Ответить"This is the age... of the Train!"
ОтветитьWe made some copies of the Intercity 125 under license in Australia but made it dumber, slower and uglier, and they still run up and down the east coast as the XPT.
Ответитьresorch labortory
ОтветитьI read somewhere two notes about the pendolino regarding the tilt failing. First, if the tilt fails it forces a max speed of 110 rather than 125, and second it apparently will take a turn at 110 with the train tilted the wrong way without danger (but i imagine that would not be fun for anyone on the train).
Ответить"He did the spell wrong and created the Pacer."
"Mother fucker."
It would sound confusing to say you pronouns are “he” instead of “he/him” it would sound like you just stopped in the middle of a sentence. Especially if you don’t preface it with “my pronouns are” like you can just say you name and “he/him” and people know what you mean but if you go “I’m John, he” you sound insane
ОтветитьMy favorite hauntological experience is every week when I drive 70 miles between two cities, and the entire route has the remains of a train line right next to the highway, except for about 12 miles of it in use near one end of my trip. I think about how my time would be better spent, more comfortable, and safer if that train line was still there. I could read, watch a movie, whatever.. instead of driving.

ОтветитьThe APT-E looks like something the Empire would use in starwars
ОтветитьThe "Black Beetle" looks like something someone in 1937 thought trains would look like in the 21st century.

ОтветитьThat one day spite strike is perfect. I want to get labor organizing to the point where we can unilaterally crash the US economy in solidarity
ОтветитьListening to this whole saga thinking "but the Shinkansen already existed! JUST DO THAT! Copy the thing you're trying to copy!"
ОтветитьHauntology = Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come?
ОтветитьWhen those two start going cockney, I can’t get the image of Arry and Bert from Thomas saying that, very fitting imagery for this episode
ОтветитьI believe the Siemens charger is very similar to the intercity 125 but heavier and American
ОтветитьI demand to know what those tiny train tracks in the first slide are for.
ОтветитьOnce upon a time Britain was a world power. Now they are not.
The untimely demise of this wacky train seems to be a microcosm of that process.
I love Alice’s idea of strike inflatables. Do you work in an industry where they can try to sneak new workers in as scabs, without the new workers knowing that they’re scabs? That becomes a lot harder when you set up a huge brightly-colored wavy tube man in front of the work site, and it shows up in a filler section on the local news
ОтветитьEuston has/had a really nice bar upstairs.
ОтветитьI'm not a British rail expert, but I think "give us the dumbest and fastest thing you have" is basically British rail history summed up.
ОтветитьA genuine Riley vocal impersonation at the beginning, not a bad cockney there Riley!
ОтветитьYou should not have come here.
This is not a place of honor. No great deed is commemorated here.
Nothing of value is here.
What is here is dangerous and repulsive.
We considered ourselves a powerful culture. We harnessed the hidden fire,
and used it for our own purposes.
Then we saw the fire could burn within living things, unnoticed until it destroyed them.
And we were afraid.
We built great tombs to hold the fire for one hundred thousand years,
after which it would no longer kill.
If this place is opened, the fire will not be isolated from the world,
and we will have failed to protect you.
Leave this place and never come back.
you know, this made me realize that the idea of hauntology could only be expanded upon (like it was by mark fisher) in britain

We are never getting the Tacoma narrows bridge video.
ОтветитьAlso you mention the jammed tilt... and the peter pervis interview video... well if you watch that interview you can see the one of the carrages is actually jammed in tilt on that video ahaahhaha
ОтветитьThe reason the uk couldnt get all the mods everywhere else got is because the unions would sulk and strike over it every 5 mins xD lets get a new train omg the window!!! Strike. Lets make the railway more profitable, strike. Lets make workers lifes more automated, strike xD
ОтветитьLol lets start the podcast after 13 mins of recording... the apt took 13 years to put in service ahahhaa
ОтветитьWhat kinda cokes d’y’all want
Ответитьit's funny how Japan made high-speed rail by making electric trains go in straight lines and everywhere else in the world was like "let's do some complicated bullshit"
Ответитьwatching the budd metroliner cab car come at you at 110 mph is just as funny as you would think
ОтветитьYork is the only worth while place to go to in England. And even then is shit.
Ответить"Alright, let's roll the clip... that you're going to have to roll yourself manually."
I love this podcast so much. 😂
The PR stunt with the High Speed Train was staged with a British Rail Class 37 locomotive. As it was built by English Electric, it did have similar looks to the Class 55 Celtic. The Class 37 was painted in a livery similar to a current police car / jam jar, complete with flashing blue light. The stunt concept was that the police train chased the HST for speeding. This required the use of two parallel tracks being run in the same direction (usually tracks run in opposite directions). So they had to find a quiet piece of 2 track line and shut it to film the stunt. The Newcastle Carlisle was used for thus purpose. The special paint job for the police train was supposed to be temporary. Unfortunately, the livery couldn't be removed so the loco had to have a complete repaint.
ОтветитьI love Alice. I love her SO MUCH. I, too, am sad and emotional about the dumb train. ;__;
ОтветитьThe song they play in the Referenced Video is Fantastic!
Just search for "APT-E theme song" and get ready to Boogie!
The CTA 2400s built by BOEING-VERTOL actually ran until the 2000s so they def fared better than the Lemon LRVs 😆
ОтветитьDear everyone, we don't call everything a coke in Tennessee. I mostly hear people say "a drink" or the name of a specific soda they know you like. Also, we have so many people from other places in the country I hear pop and soda constantly.
ОтветитьLook I really enjoy the info and you have a great way of presenting it. You guys and gal all seem like cool and nice people but my honest advice would be to chill on the sidetracked conversations. The interjections are just a lot, most I’ve ever heard in a podcast or in any normal conversation. You guys have a lot of fun but damn this could be a biiiig podcast if you all just toned it back maybe 25% on all the side conversations. Ask yourself “will this 30 second joke add to the conversation?.” You all are very nice and pleasant. Sure I’m just some guy on the internet but I have some production experience and I enjoy your content despite getting frustrated at times.
