Took my first handgun deer this year. Took a spike I thought was a doe with a Ruger Super Blackhawk 7.5" barrel. Burris 2x scope and double-lunged the deer on the trot at about 45 yards.

Call me crazy, but I have been hoping to get a full complement of 44 Mag firearms… Lever Action, Combat Revolver, Hammerless pocket/ankle wheel gun, semi auto double stack 1911 and carry pistols, bolt action, and an AR-style MSR!

Wrong they are not more coefficient than the others and they are slower not my choice but if you could speed them up but you can't because you have to shorten the case to load them and the powder capacity is reduced I believe the 265 grn flat point is the best round because of the Hornady Inerlock and also that is what the ftx is, so I am not happy that Hornady canceled them especially for the 444, now if they made a 250 grn XTP with the Inerlock would be the perfect 44 or 444 mag bullet. Just food for thought.

Got a Deerfield- softest 44 mag I’ve ever shot!
Most fun semi automatic rifle I own. It’s literally like taking out and shooting a R10/22 on steroids. Recoil is more of a push than a kick!! Perfect for a starter gun!
Merry Christmas guys and good luck trying to find one of these rifles

I get a kick how younger people will talk about cartridges like the .44 .308 or 30-30 like they’re barely adequate for anything bigger than a jackrabbit as if all the big game in the world suddenly got 10 times more tuff once we millennials started hunting them. Glad to see them giving time to a favorite cartridge of this young guy with an old soul 😉

I have a Henry big boy in 44 mag. Used it on a buck, less than 20 yards heart shot. Blood exploded from entry wound onto the brushes and tall grass, deer didn't go 20, dug the bullet out on the other side of the torso, was caught in the skin. Definitely a interesting event.

Renington UMC .44 Rem Mag
180 gr JSP is 1610 fps - 6.5" VR (Handgun) or 2100 fps - 21" (Rifle).

Leverevolution rating on the packaging is for a handgun. Does seem a bit strange given the name of the product.

That was an 1873 Winchester Nathan Algren (The Last Samurai) showcased during 1876 for the Winchester company in San Francisco. It was chambered for .44 WCF (.44-40).

The marlin 1894 in 44mag is awesome. The drawback is you lose most of the benefits of a short, light, handy rifle if you put a scope on it. Plus, if you're a traditional person, you might think a scope on a lever action is a sin! I realize some poeple don't use scopes but in Pennsylvania where I hunt most rifles i see in the woods are scoped.

Hunting in the heavy woods of northeastern Minnesota where a 40 yard shot is normal and a 75 yard shot is a LONG shot, the .44 Mag is really an ideal cartridge. I shot a Ruger .44 autoloading carbine for many years, and switched to a Ruger 96/44 lever gun about 30 years ago. A 240 grain jacketed soft nose with a good load of 2400 powder does the job just fine.

I had an 1894 many years ago. It had a bit of recoil with 240gr factory loads, and I didn't want to shoot lead bullets out of it. I started shooting Trail Boss under a 220 Sierra FPJ (no exposed lead at the tip, so they feed smoothly every time). This load had no recoil and still hit plates like a 10mm. I don't remember the velocity, but it was around 975. This cartridge is also easy to load, because resizing straight wall brass requires little effort. The caliber is very versatile, and those who experience it with only full power factory loads are missing out. Plinking with a thumper that has very low recoil is so much fun!
