Can someone help me out? I bought a b550 (w/o wifi), ryzen 5 5600x, 16gb ddr4 ram team group 3200mhz today? But I was wondering if I should chip in an extra 200$ for a b650 am5, 32gb ddr5 6000 mhz, ryzen 7700x?

This is a new build since what I've been running has been an i3 4130, 16gb ddr3. 1050ti.

I do still need to consider the new gpu aswell. Any help would be super appreciated since I am already feeling buyer's remorse (everything is unopened).

I'm looking at my 9900k and wondering the same thing. I have a very nice kit of 64gb ddr4 (two sticks). Not sure if it's worth it to go up to AM5 right now given the cost of the motherboards. If I did, perhaps I would get the 7800x3d, but then of course new board and ram.
I don't think the 13900k is worth it but considered the 13700 or 13700k with a new motherboard or go to the 5950x and a new board. I have a nice watercooling set up and a asus strix 3090 (also water cooled).

As someone who is upgrading from b450 to b550, it just doesn't make sense for me to go AM5, because I have a 5700g already, and am going from mATX to ITX B550. Granted I am getting the board for $150 used with taxes and shipping.

I don't game or edit enough to need a am5, I am a digital artist, uses blender, and play barotrauma which the 3060 12gb is perfect.

My plan in the long run is so eventually put a Pico psu on my mini-itx and sell the graphics card, then buy a whole new am5 computer if and when prices come down enough and I need a multi gpu high cpu computer for deep ai learning.

Am4 is fast, the 5700g along is an amazing mini pc cpu and can run all 40 series gpus if you can afford them. I can afford high end computer parts, but I prefer used market because I sell what I don't use, and have spent very little money on my computer by doing so, and by doing this it will give you the perspective of what components are cutting edge enough, but won't lose much value in 1-2 years. so right now is actually the time to buy AM4, because the prices are starting to drop, but you have to have an exit strategy for Am4 because it's going to drop in price, and my exit strategy is to just have a mini PC ITX pico psu until it is useless, which it wont be unless software renders it useless, which is why i upgraded to the B550, because my gigabyte monitor requires a B550 to be integrated with it's software.

When I FINALLY build my 1st pc it will be on AM4.
3900x Cpu
5700xt Gpu
16gb Ram
B550 Mobo
1tb nvme ssd
600w-700w Psu
Case (brand doesn't matter rn)

Basically it'll be used for gaming (right now I got about 3-5 steam games I dabble in (STO and SWTOR are the MAIN ones and I'm waiting to build so I can get into Star Citizen)

I've got 2 different mobo and cpu combos as viable secondary pcs atm. 2600x and x470 taichi and a 8700k and a Maximus Hero for the socket. Gonna use the 8700k until I can get a 5900x on the cheap then give the 8700k pc to give to my nieces because we both know the 9900k isn't coming down in price lol!

I am still maintaining my 5950x with a 2-year-old x570 MB and purchased more DDR4 RAMs and ATX 3.0 PSU recently and planning to purchase Arrow Lake in late 2024; then this old AM4 system will be a deep learning training mini server soon as the new Arrow Lake system replaces it.

I currently have a 5600x on a B550 with an RX 6800. I was thinking of upgrading the CPU but seeing as I just game and don't stream or anything, it'd be better to just wait til AM5 drops in price in a year or so before committing, cause that'll mean a full system upgrade for the most part.

For the right price. Did buy/return unopened a 5900X, Board feature was off and couldn't justify building it. I could see a 5600-5700X or a low end AM5 on the budget end. 9600k is still hanging in there performance wise for older games.

Should i go for ryzen 7 5700X or 5800x. I’m a new builder i got rtx 3060 (aorus) and b450 for free from my cousin, I tried 5600x it has frame drop which i hate the most, i do play cod or pubg kind of games i have 4000mhz ddr4 (32gb)ram and have ssd, my target is to get 100 to 120 fps in 1080p or 1440p without a minor drop or glitch for that let me know what i can do I’m also wondering if my upcoming cpu purchase can be used for 4090 or upcoming gpu in future.

I feel that Zen 4 is a total skip, so is 12-13th gen. For example if you have Zen 3, or 10-11th gen, you should wait for something newer. In my opinion. If you have nothing bombs away, get the newest.

I agree 110% on this! I'm thinking of building a cheap gaming desktop for my daughter. I was looking at a 5600 combined with my x570 Gigabyte board I got as part of the NewEgg Shuffle that's brand new in the box. Throw in a 3060 or 6600 and she will be gaming with decent frame rates! SSDs and DDR4 memory is so cheap right now.

absolutely. i myself upgraded this year from xeon1231v3 to:

5800x - 180€ used
b550m steel legend - 120€ new (very feature rich, 3xM.2, 2.5 GbLan, microATX, 6xSATA)
2x32GB 3200Mhz - 140€ new
thermalright assasing king cooler - 30€ new
========
sum - 440€ (=470$)

super budget and 30-40% cheaper than AM5 solution with 7600x, which is areound the same performance. An equal feature rich AM5 board would be atleast double the cost, same with DDR5. Also i wanted a microATX board and back in january there were almost none available for AM5

I just upgraded recently from an R5 2600 to 5600....jump was huge. I should be good awhile. Could go further with this board but will probably switch to AM5 when I need to upgrade again. Hopefully by then boards and cpus will have come down in price considerably.

I’m not understanding the first gen upgrade angle for AM5. 1800x on b350 and 2400 memory wasn’t a great upgrade path either. These chipsets are limited to ddr5 6000 reliably, so is it really worth hoping for a decent upgrade? 3d cache helps reduce the memory need, but if you can score the am4 for more then half the cost for 80% of the performance? Mid cycle refined am5 seems a better jumping point at least for gaming.

Great video Tech! I have a question. I'm running a 5700XT + Ryzen 3700X that I built during Summer 2019. I upgraded to 32GB RAM CL16 since. The purpose of this machine is to stream (internal capture card), video editing and occasional gaming (Anno 1800; FlightSim; Assassins Creed games) on 1440p (can go up to 144hz, but cap it at 60fps to enjoy High Quality frames). Now, time for an upgrade but I'm not ready for a full upgrade to AM5 just yet, so should I upgrade to 5900X or 5950X? Graphics I will get the 7900XT (for 1440p 144hz high quality). Thank you
