I've never seen, nor I intend to watch the movies since I'm not a fantasy enjoyer, but I'm enchanted by this scene. Smaug feels heavy, I love how they protrayed his presence along with his charisma and attitude. It felt like he could just kill the guy whenever he wanted and he made me hold my breath everytime he elegantly moved around the cave, like he could snap at every moment by being triggered by a wrong word. Also the use of light here is magistral, I love how he creeps around in the dark. I've always been a sucker for dragons in general and this is one of the best scenes I've ever seen in that regard.

I remember watching the behind the scenes them recording the face express for the animation and how silly the motion capture looks but when you see the finished product in this movie it's amazing

"The coward oakenshield, has weight the value of your life and found it worth NOTHING" That really got Bilbo thinking 😅

You know what's crazy? Smaug is huge here, but he'd be like average if not smaller to the size and power of First Age winged dragons, and he'd be like a hobbit or a puppy to Ancalagon The Black.

I personally his portrayal here shows just how insane the War Of Wrath must have been.

I think smug was just playing along,the reason I say that is because of smaug saying(in smaug voice)I think our little game ends here.... and of him saying he new oakanshild one day whould return to reclaim the treasure and thinking they could desive him about making terms with the people of Laketown....smaug may be a dragon but hes not easy to fool.

When my dog was just a pup, she used to get scared by certain animals she'd see on the TV. She'd normally run away from them, but when she saw Smaug, she legit got down in a submissive position and couldn't move or stop staring at him 😂😂😂

The camerawork specifically is amazing in this scene.

I'm pretty sure Smaug is one of the characters apart from the witches who notices the rings power around him. Which is great but sutble display of his power and intelligence.
