I discovered Al Kooper when I was in high school (1966). My best friend and lead guitarist had Projections, still one of my favorite LPs. After The Blues Project, another of my favorite LPs of all time, Child is Father to the Man, the first and best BS&T LP and just about all the LPs since then. I am just about finished with his book. If you are any kind of fan, or interested in the music of that time, do yourself a favor and buy his book. Al Kooper has a great sense of humor and the book is an easy entertaining and very funny read. You won't be sorry! Recently, I had a couple of questions for Al and wrote to him via his website. Much to my surprise and amazement, I got back personal (and very humorous) replies.
ОтветитьWow. Al doesn’t remember Billy Powell playing on the first album? Things Going On? Tuesday’s Gone, etc.?
ОтветитьAl’s book is an excellent read.
ОтветитьMy favorite musicians
ОтветитьMy gawd, posssibly the best interview I’ve heard.
ОтветитьJimmy did al KOOPER drop in on the basement tapes sessions
ОтветитьHi Jimmy...did
ОтветитьI went back and listened to my vinyl version of 'Sooner or Later' by Bob, and zeroed in on the piano, Al Kooper is right on, that piano is great.
ОтветитьNo one was in the right place at the right time as many times as AL
ОтветитьSkynyrd was checking in a hotel ( this is the version I've heard and read in multiple periodicals ) - there was a piano in the lobby and Billytold one
of the crew " This is how I would play Freebird" - Someone told Ronnie and after he heard this he told Billy "You're fired from the crew - and you're in the band "
I said it before and it bares repeating - Al is underappreciated as far as his impact on the Southern music - his work on the first 2 Skynyrd records , and his influence on the Allmond bros sound - and in doing so his influence continues to impact -
ОтветитьWonderful. Love your stuff Al. Child is Father to the Man is my choice for number one album of the 1960s/ Or should it be Super Session? And thank you for bringing along Harvey Brooks. "Harvey's Tune" is my personal theme song. Yow.
ОтветитьSuch a great interview…❤️
ОтветитьThe Dylan song Sooner or Later is an INCREDIBLE track.
ОтветитьEnjoying this. Bravo.
ОтветитьGreat interview
ОтветитьThanks. Jimmy. It's so cool to hear Al's stories. Enjoyed it a lot!!
ОтветитьGreat interview Jimmy. Thanks for these videos.
ОтветитьBLOOMFIELD RULES !!!
