Its not spy plane it is AWACS. Esentialy airborn radar. So since it is having huge radar gange basicly it is also means that is broadcasting his location all the time. And if you have a rocket with insane range you just need to lock on its radar signal probably

The A-50 is not an aircraft. It’s a transformer. It went from aircraft to submarine in a few seconds.

If this taking-down of an A50 did EVER happen, it would be important to understand exactly where it took place for starters. Until then everything else is just mere speculations. Somebody maybe should tell the former presidential adviser" that RuAF strategic doctrines are alot more different to those of the US, take for instance MiG-31, Su-27, 35, 57 radars can see further than F-16, 15EX, 22, 35s and can network with other air assets and ground control to perform near similarly like AWACS. The Russians utilize their A50, 50Us for early warning of low ground terrain following and low flying early detection --- a single loss of an A50 is catastrophic, however there are other immobile and mobile assets that RuAF can call on for the same function on a pinch. And RuAF is already upgrading the AEW/AWACS fleet with new platforms already on order and under current construction....
