Someone on the internet took the back round from this and replaced this Superman with a still from Superman 3, the scene from the bar. That looks better than this.

To be frank, the issue with modern hollywood has been the fact that they don't know their target audience. Look at the green lantern film as a case and point. They previously spent the better part of a decade showing the John Stewart lantern on the justice league cartoons, only to use the Hal Jordan lantern for the feature film. They did the same thing to spiderman in the marvel films. Why would you throw away all that hard work to build an audience, and then throw it away. They managed to get Toby back in later films, so why didn't they just use his Peter Parker for the avengers? This is the same kind of reckless behavior that destroyed the star wars franchise.

Superman hasn't been an optimist in feature films in decades. More than the costume fit, the optimistic subtext is what should really impress.

I don't have any faith in James Gunn.

I am happy to see the increasing democratization of film making. Let Hollywood drown in a morass of wokeness. Soon any random shmoe on the street will be able to make better studio quality films himself.

Well, guys, it's just the costume looks bad, the colors are muted - again - the symboled is wrong, the costume doesn't fit, his expression is dour, and the situation in the background makes him seem apathetic, but, other than that it's still vastly inferior to Henry Cavill.

It’s seems like the actor bulked up but the studio wanted him to be bigger so they padded the suit especially around the chest area. The snyderverse movies had issues but they had some of the best costume designs put on film. Not sure why they went with such a downgrade. The Christopher reeves suit from the 70s looks better than this.

There was a psychologists video I watched last year and he analysed a lot of recent films with supposed heroes when someone said there's something odd going on with films as of the last few years. He said and this is paraphrasing "Psychopaths like to destroy icons or peoples heroes and make them weak in various ways, Every hero in Hollywood has either either been made into a bumbling buffoon or an all out clown, Why ? Psychopaths are at the reins."

This is 1 of the reasons any positive male role models in films are now pathetic.

It is a still image. For all we know, he is putting his boots on really fast while the scene in the background is playing out in slow motion. I'm surprised I haven't seen more people realise that. As for the design, why just make a rehash of Reeves suit? The creases in the shoulders are also bound to happen in the position he is in, which could easily be removed in post, like this person proved with their phone.....this is once again the Internet making mountains of molehills ffs.

Crazy that a fan made this improved picture from his iPhone. It looks way better than the first one. Superman supposed to represent truth, justice and the American way. Rather than dread and despair. James Gunn should've brought back the classic silver age version of Superman.

Loose fitting can work with Superman. They should've gone with a more fabricy material. The way Frank Quitely drew him in All Star Superman comes to mind. And Kingdom Come, Alex Ross' style shows that it's doable. This just looks stupid though

It's clearly a play on picking yourself up by your bootstraps and/or going to work, but it makes me wonder if this new movie is going to be a sad, brooding Superman that doesn't even want to get out of bed.

I hate how dirty Hollywood is treating all white male characters these days, but on another note... WHY does everyone keep doing Superman?? He's one of the most boring superheroes, in my opinion. He has so many powers he's basically undefeatable... except by his one weakness: a space rock. It's so... uninspired and unrelatable, compared to Batman or Iron Man. I don't get it. I don't get the love for Superman. Can someone explain?

Superman in the fist picture looks defeated and tired of it all, he looks like his about to quit while in the second picture, he looks optimistic and ready for a great day of being people's hope and inspiration.

It would have been smarter to release an image of Clark Kent and save the suit reveal for the theatrical release. Neither image inspires confidence in the film, but the fan made pic is better.

You're the one who's depressing. I agree that the suit doesn't suit him very well but they just wanted to reveal it fast and it'll be fixed. Other than that I have no problems with this Superman. I personally like it. As for the suit, it's not even the final version of the suit. You're judging him way too fast and David is more muscular than Henry.

Playing devils advocate, but clearly the image is meant to show the things you pointed out. This superman is clearly tired, worn out. His suit isn't some alien power suit, it's something he's made himself, like the body armor suit a vigilante might make. It's not a poorly made photo, it's a photo which obviously gives us a lot of information about this superman and the direction they are taking.

Of course, this doesn't mean it's the right direction to take it in - but everything about that picture is deliberate.

Simple answer! Henry Cavill respects the source material! He's not a sell out! Look at the Witcher Series! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's Betaman! He waits for wamen to fix the problems!

The promotional image suit looks so... Dirty...

The people who populate modern Hollywood are brutal, spiteful, unadulterated psychopaths. They don't understand people, and they don't care to. Remember how in American Psycho, how the guy basically got away with murder because the victim's parents never payed enough attention to where he was or what he was doing, to notice whether he might have gone missing or not? Self-absorbed sociopaths of that type will always give us the image on the left. THEY see something in it. It adheres to THEIR vision of the character. A working man with friends, family, and maybe even kids of his own will provide the photo on the right. A bright, idealistic take on a character that fights the battles we cannot is something the people around him could really use. That's the story here: James Gunn is a disgusting, psychotic loser. His Superman movie is going to suck because he's the one making it, not someone like you, or whoever gave us the brilliancy on the right!

I have zero expectations for this movie, other than it's likely going to be mediocre. The people making it don't get Superman at all.

How long will the name Superman last in this Woke World .

Someone'll have said it but they fixed the S logo as well, the one of the left is more in line with the Superman from the Kingdom Come storyline and they screwed that up withthe yellow section inside instead of the black. The one on the right is the classic regular Superman symbol.
