Correction !!! Gothama Siddartha from "saakya " clan born to queen "mahamaya " in "theldeniya" in Kandy District in Sri lanka. Historical Rock caves with writings as proves. King "Suddodana " southern part of Sri Lanka place called "Dimbulagala" in present. Their was archaeological findings. Buddhas' spoken language was "marghadee sound language", when it written to literature in scriptures by Sri Lankan born Theravaada Buddhist monks, it called " pela dhahama" or Pali cannon. Sinhala language is the base. Buddha has advised to chief attendant "Arahath Ananda", not to translate Dharma to "Sanskrit" Language reasoning it can alter the meaning of the "words".

I'm glad you started this video with what is Siddhartha Gautama's most important teaching.

A lot of people assume he's some kind of god or deity and we should just follow what he said without examining how to apply those teachings.

I always use the example that being vegan isn't a requirement, but it's impossible to consume animal products without harming other living beings.

But I wish all the best on their path to enlightenment.

It's interesting that the original Buddhism doesn't consider the buddha a deity but the later newer ones do. Its part of how religion evolves and it is always evolving. 🤠

God is Reason, what aligns with Reason aligns with God, as it says in the beginning of the video. That is a logically irrefutable fact that is supported by all logically coherent scientific evidence (all genuine science in other words).

It is 100% certain that the Logic of the Universe (True Reason) is the One True God - the Source of the Universe and all concepts within it, including “True and Lasting Happiness” as the video is mentioning as I write this (inspired by and maintaining coherence with True Logic as I do so).

I am currently living in the American south, have been practicing theravada Buddhism since I was 17, beginning with a reading of The Dhammapada. Since then I've read much more broadly, but still read the pali canon nearly daily. "When a fool commits an evil action, he is lighting a fire in which he will [must] one day burn." The difference between theravada and others for me was one of divinities rather than doctrine, whereas some see the buddha and buddhas as godlike beings whereas for others the buddha was a philosopher and the dharma is a practically understood guide for self-actualization. This feels a bit detached from the spirituality, though that might be an artifact of language and not of the experiential reality of Buddhist practice. Practice mindfullness in all things, engage in right-action, right-thought, right-speech. Take no part in lies, fear-mongering, or deceit of any kind. it is a fire in which you one day burn, etc. For me it has been a practice of seeking knowledge and self-analysis to the ends of self-improvement public and private.

One thing of note about a nation of Buddhists for me is that it has yet to past they invaded and oppressively converted others to believe as they did. It speaks to the sophistication of the idea that it needs not arm itself.

Did Gautama Buddha really exist? The earliest text recording all these legends about him , the Pali canon was written down 300-400 years after he is supposed to have lived so I’m pretty skeptical honestly.

Buddha invented suffering? If the first rule is “you suffer”, maybe ignorance was bliss.

As both a Theravada and Mahayana practitioner, I’d also like to clarify that jhana or jhayati mean meditation. It has both the function of stopping (samatha) and looking deeply (vipassana).

When one observes the breathing with pure awareness, it also calms and concentrates his mind. And when one’s mind is calm, it helps him focus and see unclouded. So samatha and vipassana are not something you can practice separately.

Buddha never really divided meditations into two categories. They were just two functions of meditation. It was in the Vissudhimagga where Buddhaghosa categorised meditations that way.

We should also not be caught in the notion that the four jhanas are insightless samatha meditations. Joy and happiness are what settle the mind to cultivate equanimity and mindfulness, for clear vision to be developed. So vipassana and samatha are never two distinct practices.

Thank you for the amazing video! Some of my thoughts:

The 1st noble truth can be described as “suffering exists” (rather than life is suffering and the way out is to get rid of life).

The 2nd truth explains the arising of suffering. Through the six senses, different kinds of feelings, perceptions, and volition are born. When under ignorance, wrong views and grasping tangle us, bringing about sufferings.

The forth truth shows us the way, usually summarised as the eightfold path. But we can also understand it this way:

Following the precepts and living a righteous life, we can easily be mindful and aware in each moment. Meditation on the breathing, loving-kindness and impurity calm our body and mind, bringing ease, joy, happiness, for concentration to be possible. This in turn allows reality to reveal itself. Understanding and non-grasping then help liberate our afflictions or knots.

The 3rd truth talks about uprooting ignorance, craving and hatred, that is the extinction and quenching of wrong views and dukkha’s chain, leaving us freedom, solidity, peace, freshness...

This is my alternative way to clarify the teaching. Hope it is useful for our practices.

It is time to rethink of the age of Buddha. Pali Canon and Archaeology clearly hints that Buddha must be older than Persian Emperor Cyrus II, I assume Buddha exited in the 7th Century BCE.

lt is not helpful you think of Nirvana as enlightenment. My teaching says you can be enlightened and still be alive for a whole time. But if you go into Nirvana you totally disappear. Enlightened beings can stick around and teach others; beings in Nirvana or gone totally, totally totally.
i have been taught that is a real and important distinction.
