A quick, effective creativity prompt that you won't see in any books

This is a super effective way to tap into some of the deeper themes that interest you, and it's not a technique that's taught in any of the songwriting books I've read (and I've read a lot).
Simply set a timer for 5-7 minutes and write down as many questions as you like. You might start with "What shall I have for lunch?" but you'll start drilling down fairly quickly into areas of genuine interest to you. Those themes that stir your curiosity tend to have a lot more creative juice in them for you and tend to have more energy. If you've got something which is interesting to you, chances are you'll write that material in a way that's interesting to your listeners too.
