hi!  What was the weight of the very nice wax block you bought for about 10 CA$? Also, where did you buy it from (website or something)?

I cooked bees wax, turpentine and pine resin together to make a wood polish. It looked great. Only drawback was if the surface got wet the sculpture would dry with a slight ashy sheen. It could  be hand polished with a cloth and was fine. For a refresher I left the sculpture owner with a small tin of my polishing wax.

Chisel + pyrex +hot wax would make a nasty shatter. Other than that thanks for the useful instruction. :D

The beewax you showed was breaking ,You could have made it into small pieces on the floor itself ( should have put the Bee wax into a small polythene cover , put a cloth above that and hammer it to break it into small pieces) and then go for heating up in your way. But you were chiseling when it was hot melting on the stove, if the vessel tilts, it would lead to major burn injury. Mind u -through your video, you are guiding others to make the product.

Since I make numerous cutting boards, the best ratio I found is 4:1 mineral oil to beeswax ..

I made a batch of this today for some boards...I used a back packer's cup/pot and a hiking stove for heat. I don't have to worry about my bride yelling at me for doing (yet another) science experiment in the house, and the pot has a lid. When I need more wax, I just fire up the hiking stove for a few minutes. This mix is also great for cracked, dry, or chafed skin...

why don't you use weight to weight ratio.?

14 ounces of oil to 25 ounces of wax. It would be so much more easy to follow.

Regards,

Bill.

Thanks for posting this. Looking forward to trying it out. Looks like you use a 2:1 ratio (wax: oil)?

Does the oil re-solidify once cooled in the containers? If so, how do you get the wood to absorb it?

great video! a question, in my country i can't find mineral oil, im not entirely sure whats the translation to spanish, but what i can find in my local hardware store is linseed oil and some beeswax, thats a good finish too right? when you do a project you just apply that mix, nothing else before you apply this beeswax oil mix? thank you for your help!

Dont ever use oils that have unsaturated fats in then. they go rancid.

Cool man that is a great idea, thanks
I think coconut oil kinda freezes quickly in cold weather(winter)
A demo (applying it on wood...etc.) would have been nice to see how that mix works.

You mentioned olive oil being OK, but that would go rancid.

Since you're suggesting pouring/storing it in mason jars, why not just melt and mix it in the same mason jars?

GOD dont use olive oil, cocunut oil, canola oil or anything similar!!!! It will go bad and spoil on anything you put it on...and it that is a cutting coard or butcher block...thats not good! Tung Oil, Mineral oil, linseed oil, walnut oil, danish oil...all ok!

Remember measuring by displacement? After you measure out your 2 cups of mineral oil, add chips of beeswax until the level reaches 3 cups.

Hi, I want to use beeswax to seal some cups I am working on. Do you have problems using hot liguids in the beeswax, it is my only concern. I didnt want the finish to dissolve when I make a cup of tea.

Beeswax weighs 0.961 gram per cubic centimeter...
Coconut oil weighs 0.924 gram per cubic centimeter...
For homemade salves, creams, etc; they are close enough to simply measure ratios by weight, and disregard density differences.

Olive oil or Canola oil can go rancid or produce mildew. You can also grate the wax which will melt quicker.

I tried using this wax and washed the board once and found that it dried out easily, meaning that the board became white from the soap and the fibres of the wood grain raised. So I need to know how to apply it effectively.
