How many “cases” per day do you do on average? I come from a medical call center auditing background and its back to back audits, a but tiring! I wonder if coding is similar or a bit more ldi back time/work load wise?

Working for a big healthcare company as a CNA. I have great reviews from my peers. Just signed up for classes today because I have watched so many of your videos. Hoping by next fall I’ll be coding for them ❤ thanks for all the insight and vlogs. It pushed me to take classes! ❤

What makes you type so much if you’re just putting in codes and numbers?

My best friend and I are perfect examples of not needing coding experience to land your first job! However, we do both have strong medical backgrounds as we were both full-time medical transcriptionists for almost 20 years before we got our coding certifications, so that may have given us a bit of an advantage over someone with a new coding certification with no medical background. Upon passing our CPC exams and obtaining our certifications, we both landed jobs with one of our local hospitals within 3-4 weeks of passing the exam! They had 2 openings for coders and we were literally the ONLY 2 applicants! Neither one of us had ever coded a day in our lives, but we were still hired as apprentice coders with a starting salary of $50k/year and we do work from home full-time. Then, after we had been there for a full year, we "graduated" and the apprentice title was dropped from our names and we became "big kid" coders, LOL. We both do emergency room coding and LOVE it. I know that not everyone has the luck we did when trying to land their very first coding job with no experience. I have another friend who didn't find a coding job for about a year after she became certified since so many hospitals and companies will only hire people with at least 2-3 years of coding experience, which is hard to get when you're brand new. My friend and I actually both just got accepted into a training program that our hospital is offering to become certified inpatient coders, which is MUCH more difficult because you have to learn root operations and a lot more billing material, but it's also a bit of a higher salary, so we're going for it!

Hey, girl! Stumbled upon your videos last week. I really do like the "day in the life of a medical coder" series you have going on. Honestly, this video is my favorite! I enjoy the snipits of the notes/charts and 30 secs or so you provide for us to pause, review, and determine the code. Then yours pops up for validation. Call me a nerd, but I really like it! I have my CCA and am working towards my CCS through AHIMA :) thanks for the extra study and chill video to watch as well. Much love and please keep them coming ♥

Can I ask you a coding question? As an emergency department coder, sometimes I have charts for patients who are in the midst of a medical abortion and are presenting for pain management. I'm having a hard time finding guidance for correct coding. Do you code the weeks of gestation, if the goal is termination in this situation? Is there any code to indicate this is an expected pain level from the medical abortion, not a complication or an adverse effect? And is a medical abortion considered a procedure (if they've had both doses, is this technically a post-procedural state)? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey I just wanted to stop in to say thanks for sharing in the advice given from a previous video. I found a affordable MedCerts program that I am currently attending and will completed within 12-14 weeks for medical billing. Like you said start from the bottom and work your way up into coding. 🤞🏾

Are all of you codes this easy?
I’m currently in school for coding and I noticed that they don’t mention getting certified , they just teach you and send you on externships in which most cases you get hired from yOur externship… so how do I go about getting my certification once I graduate?

Are there medical coding positions that require perhaps a certain quota weekly? I work full-time in the school district but would love to code during my evenings and weekends. I'm preparing to take my AAPC exam.

I am a new coder and I was hired with no experience as a medical coder in 2020, yes it can be discouraging when looking for a job in the beginning because employers preference is a coder with experience, don’t give up eventually it will happen 😊
