thats the home one they show in that scene, thats 1,300 meters. the new cruisers look about 2/3 to a half the size of it, so I would put the new cruiser at about 700 to 1,000 meters. and look at that, just checked the wiki and they put it at about 1,000 meters.

This ship has been seen before actually. This is the MC-30c Frigate . We saw it first in the PC gam star wars empire at war expansion. They are amazing little ships with a decent starfighter compliment and weaponry. Emplaced weapons are comparible to the Nebulon- B bit this ship sports numerous Concussion and Proton torpedo launchers.

What else do you expect from Disney. they are beyond uncreative. If you have a white male character that is even moderately masculine, they will be either stupid or the bad guy. There is no drama in the story b/c DEI trumps any character development.

it actually makes sense the New Republic would have a rocky start. Lots of empire loyalists remain. Lots of worlds to establish order in with few Alliance personnel built up thus far. lots of corruption to route out.

That cruiser looks a lot like the Regent sentinel class capital starship I designed for my book. Not exact, but close enough. And now I'm sobbing because I have to go back and make changes so it doesn't look like I stole the design from something I didn't know existed before the Ahsoka series aired. grumbling and stomping away It was a perfect design, too. I spent months on that. Stupid, frickin', dolphin lovin' -- more inaudible grumping fades as she walks away.

comes back I'm fine. Just needed to get let some steam out and tell myself it's fine, and that this is going to happen in the sci-fi genre. Now I can enjoy the starship porn in peace.

I don't see any other comments saying this, and mine might get drowned out by the others praising its design, but: This is not a new ship
The ships is the MC30, in which most of the time it is seen in media, it acts as a Rebel Torpedo Frigate that can get into danger and wreak massive damage to opponents with a VERY large array of Proton Torpedoes, Missiles, and many other ordnance.

The crew thing is a beautiful reference to western politics, the party willing to go to war and fight the horror of the genocidal regime that rose to power is pushed aside once the war is over.
They are overrun by hypocritical politicians that never went to war and lecture everyone about how bad war is and how monstrous the party that freed them was.
They blindly cease all motivations to defend themselves as they think any sense of patriotism and will to create a worldwide sense to protect their values is fascist and dangerous allowing real fascists to rise again and wipe them out.

Its a cyclical thing for humanity, every empire must rise to fall to a bureaucratic republic that will crumble again for a new empire to rise, endlessly.

One of the first things I noticed about Ahsoka is that all of the male characters are evil, overweight, or neutered (including the droids) and that all the New Republic uniforms are too fancy.

From the hangar bays it looks more like 24 fighters. 6 fighters per bay. Got to have room to move the fighters. And probably used for parts storage for the fighters. Also a repair Bay Area for the fighters.

The Empire Naval philosophy closely follows the naval doctrine of Imperial Japan. Most Japanese naval officers clung to the WW 1 idea that naval fleets should be built around the battleship, for close-in naval engagements. Admiral Yamamoto and a few officers disagreed, citing the rise in power and importance of the carrier, but they were out voted. The Rebels, like the US in WW 2, designed their naval fleet building philosophy around the carrier, noting the flexibility in roles and ability to project power across long distances as the most important aspects of a naval fleet

I love the new ship design. It's round, pleasantly round. Feels like a shield. But it also has cutouts on the sides, and the classic star wars scallop-style hull.

Basically, best ship design I've seen in Star Wars since the fucking Venator and that's no light praise. I wonder if that's on "purpose" in lore (aka totally not meant by the show writers but it works anyway), that the New Republic specifically designed it with aesthetics in mind to distance itself from the utilitarian and power-projecting Empire.

Hope they call it the Aegis-class or something like that. It needs a round, smooth yet robust name.

Honestly, I think there might be a decent explanation for why ISDs were the backbone of imperial fleet doctrine

The last "rebellion" that occurred in this universe was one fought with capital ships and major fleet engagements. The battle over coruscant and the hunt for the Malevolence come to mind. In these scenerios, the ISD would have been perfect against the seperatists - so long as they had carriers to back them up.

As we've seen in WWI, generals - especially after a war (franco-prussian for example) - tend to strategize their doctrines based on what happened previously.

If we adopt this mindset for the imperial doctrine in star wars, I think it makes some logical sense on why the empire focused so much on super-battleships. They were planning with a past war in mind.

If you're looking at learning a bit more about naval warfare, doctrine and thinking, check out these books.

Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat, 2nd edition, Captain Wayne P Hughes, USN Ret
Fleet Tactics and Naval Operations, Hughes and Girrier

There's.... I read that type of stuff and Mahan is someone I quote far more often than I should be. Yeah, you've got a bit to learn, some foundations to cover. Wrong? Closer to it than I want to admit. Ignorant of, to my ears.

The guy at the back with his blaster at the ready is probably the smartest guy there. He can tell something is about to go down and he's got his weapon at the ready and two meat shields in front of him (one meat shield and one tilapia shield) they aren't much against a lightsaber but he had the right idea
