Transmission Range sensor replacement, P0705-P1702. Freestar 2004

On rwd in the US it is underneath on the driver (left) side of the tranny.
On fwd it should be under the hood on the driver side. I can sometimes be difficult to see with all the wires and hose around it.

was the shifter in neutral in the car ?
