Try to liquify lead styphnate with a strong alcohol. I can’t remember the name of the specific chemical alcohol but if I dwell on it I could probably remember. Ffs, I could probably google it. There’s a plethora of reasons not to mess with it, same with mercury fulminate. Great for a dab on top of a heat sink for primary explosions. Scary though, it’s not anything you want to do outside of a blast cubicle.

This ewokes a lot of memories lol. I played with this stuff for quite a while back in 8th grade, (used HCl as a catalyst and washed product on filter twice with strong NaHCO3 solution and then twice with cold water) but I lowkey treated it like NI3, maybe that's why I haven't had a single unplanned casualty with it in more then a year lol

I have long considered this an excellent video on safety in this sort of reaction. There is no way you could ever convince me to make or handle this stuff.

Is this what caps (for cap guns) are made of?

Did you guys use hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid as a catalyst? I made about half a gram of TATP using pure acetone and HCl, with some 50% H2O2, and its much less sensitive than whats shown in this video.

Is there a inert substance that could be added to this to make it more stable. I was thinking about Wax or Chalk. I have no plans on making this because I am afraid of the RCMP and I like my hands just as they are with 10 fingers. But just out of general curiosity what type of fillers could be added to unstable material and to what effect. Even if we are not talking about TATP but other compounds that may want to be more stable.
