Part of the reason burds of rpey has been my favorite superhero movie in the last 5 years is because of how it fills the street level hole weve been missing. Its also just a lot of fun

Coming from someone who had family members that were victims of the Holocaust, I can't even begin to describe how pissed off it makes me that Disney practically ignored the Jewish elements of mark's character.

Kamalas powers COULD evolve eventually into the Shype shifting powers she normally has eventually, i mean Marvel DID manage to make a good looking Mr.Fantastic Dr.Strange 2.

I suspect (but i can be wrong) that Moon Knight in MCU is grandson of rabbi who was saved by Captain America during WW2. I guess this would be mention in new CA movie.

Thank you for the video we didn't know we need it!

We're DID system and first time we heard about Moon Knight its when we saw a news about new marvel show about hero with DID if i remember it right. So we saw it without any base knowledges about them and we liked the show for it's almost accurate image of people with DID (we still have some questions to the writers, but it's still better, than most of the representation we saw before).
It was really interesting to get known their system and story more especially from a big fan!!

Absolutely adore these voiced parts from comics and we especially appreciated several of yours remarks about typical DID tropes in media. You're completely right, we're freaking tired of all that hah

One of the BIG pluses for us from that show - it's a representation and because of that many people maybe first time dived into world of systems without making systems devils or any other ableist shit. Also this show helped us a little with telling people about some of aspects of our life. I don't know, if you'll read that comment, but anyway thanks for the video again!

Your criticism of superheroes becoming the "bumbling funny man" is spot on. Too many superheroes feel like they are just the same guy just with different quirks attached.
Spider-Man is bumbling funny man, but street level.
Star-Lord is bumbling funny man, but space.
Now Moon Knight is also bumbling funny man, but with DID.

In the comics, it actually feels like these guys are radically different people, which makes it all the more fun when they clash or team-up. In comparison, the MCU versions of these characters might as well be brothers.

I know for a fact this comment will never be seen by almost anyone due to how late it is but I would just like to say as someone who loved this show when it came out and was introduced to marvel through the MCU that this video and other like it are really eye opening for me. As much as I enjoy the MCU for what it is hearing about the changes makes me wish for a more faithful adaptation of the comics, especially for a character as nuanced as Moon Knight. I don’t know much about him as before the pandemic my exposure to marvel was almost exclusive to the MCU with the occasional comic or video, I had a collection of comics but they were more there because my mother grew up with and loves marvel comic and got them for me rather than for me. But after I started watching more video essays and got into stuff like Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and even the comics that I do own I wish the MCU was more accurate or had something that could fill that void. Something akin to how the DCAU or DCAMU were in contrast to the DCEU. The parts where you had the comic panels up with the voice acting especially made me wish we got to see that out of the show than what we got, especially with Steven Grant and Mr. Knight (and this is coming from someone who you would have described as the perfect target audience at the time who loved Steven’s character to death.) Personally I still think the show had some cool stuff that could work in concept but it was simply too early to experiment with new stuff as it alienates audiences from how Moon Knight is in the comics. Which is a shame cause all of the stuff you have mentioned that we missed is stuff in the show that while they kinda existed they weren’t explored nearly enough or it wasn’t even something I noticed, for example I never knew Moon Knight was Jewish before this video. All this makes me wish that A. Someone who actually cared to adapt the source material was working on either the MCU or some other series (like a MAU like how the yostverse almost was) was in charge of doing a Moon Knight adaptation and B. That I owned some Moon Knight comics so I could read about this character (gonna have to be something I pick up and start collecting.) All this is to say that this is an amazing well researched video.

If they'd made Moonknight a hard boiled street level detective story where he occasionally fights some monsters and also chases down drug dealers and the like while dealing with his DID that would have been great. Add some darker violence and that would take people for a ride. It absolutely would have been something that's never been done in the MCU.

Probably my favorite aspect MCU Moon Knight is the different costumes for different Alters, I feel that makes him a more interesting character and thats pretty much the only thing I wish gets adapted into the comics from the show. But the problem is that they made the Steven suit Mr. Knight, if they made him an original suit itbwould have worked so much better, Mr. Knight should have been used a symbol of how Marc is maturing as a hero or as a 4th Alter that woudl be used for more analytical purposes

Damn... talk about saying what I'm thinking, man. It's always sad when you can't share the version of a character that you've loved for years with people who (for one reason or another) just never got into comics. I thought that was supposed to be the point-- to proselytize the comic canon using a more familiar medium. It's turning into a place to reverse engineer all of the cool artistic choices made by many creators over literal decades of stories into the lowest-hanging fruit on what feels like a withering MCU vine.

As a longtime huge fan of Moon Knight, I was extremely happy with the show. It was very different from the comics, but I think it pulled off the tricky balance of focusing less on action and superheroics to be a character study. But I definitely agree it’s too bad they never played with the ambiguity of whether or not Khonshu was real. You can only do that once before revealing he’s truly real, and they should’ve done that.

For the villain, they did indeed just make an original villain and then give him a name from the comics. Ethan Hawke gives a good performance, but his character doesn’t grow very much and he could’ve been given more to do.

I think it would’ve been better if Moonknight was just as brutal as he is in the comics
Like a loose canon, unlike Hulk, Moonknight can be some quirky, lovable, egypt-loving goofball, an incredible mercenary that can stand his own against people like Winter Soldier (I assume) or a psycopathic murderer

I’ve been thinking about it, but after seeing those panels of the Moon Knight comics, I’ve had an idea of where this show could’ve gone. It should’ve been a therapy session with Mark Spector as he goes over his many adventures as the Moon Knight. I’m not that knowledgeable about the titular character, but given how his mental illness seems to play a big role in both the show and the comics, it would’ve been really cool to see Mark Spector talking to his therapist, swapping from personality to personality as they all retell their experiences with their Jewish upbringing, their life as a mercenary, their relationship with Khonshu, and how the Moon Knight came to be. It definitely would’ve justified the show format because it could’ve been a different story for every episode, like this one goes over his upbringing with his pacifist father and this one goes over his fight against Dracula or something (I don’t know a lot about Moon Knight’s rogue’s gallery). It definitely feels like a missed opportunity to capitalize on such an interesting character

This has to be your worst video yet dawg. Each run on moonknight uses different aspects of his character and downright rewrite him, why would you care if the live action version of the character is different than the comics?
