Historical Games in 2000s: generic soldier seen in background of levels isn't wearing a 1/1 scale uniform but isn't noticeable since they're only going to be in the background.
Journalists: rants about the historical inaccuracy
Players: "We don't care."

Historical Games in 2010s: games were starting to focus on being fun as a majority of their players don't care for the history lessons, historical accuracy was tuned down to the point that things don't match up to the real stories with a pinch of historical fantasy.

Journalists: rants about the games being racist, sexist and anti-lgbtq+
Players: "I just want to play games."

Historical Games now: becomes the Hollywood of Games, takes actual stories from History and changes them up to be more exaggerated while also pleasing the Journalists. Censors everything from war crimes, to murder, to drafts and anything that shows a slight bit of "fucked up". Also adds in whacky cosmetics for players such as golden weapons, female soldiers wearing maids outfits and tactical clowns.
Journalists: "It's perfect."
Players: becomes so braindead they couldn't solve a puzzle.

Not saying the Players is everybody, most people who played these games are just like that. The people who actually care about a Game's Historical Accuracy is sadly overweighed by a depressingly larger majority of people who aren't interested in history.
