Dazai actually really closely represents the protagonist of the story No Longer Human written by the original Osamu Dazai. In the book, Yozo ( the MC) puts on the act of a “ clown” because deeply inside he feels that he doesn’t belong and can’t fit into a normal functioning “ human” society. In the book he was often portrayed as ‘ charming, funny, and handsome’ which reflects on the anime character for Dazai. Yozo hides his real emotions very deeply as one of his greatest fears was being seen through his clown act, which lead the people around him to believe that he was living a great life, from an aristocratic family and highly educated. There was also a sentence in which his friend from middle school said that, “ woman will fall for you.” Which further indicates his charm and charisma. So I think from a watchers point of view when watching the anime we see Dazai as how he presents himself in front of other people while hiding his real emotions.

Another analogy of dazai is related to how his ability stops any abilities from working on him- helpful or otherwise. This means that the healers or emotion manipulators that could help him cope even a little more are denied to him, just like his end is. He is simply existing in limbo, practically a void. He doesn’t live for himself or is so suic!dal that he keeps trying to die until it works, he just fails to die and just gets up again because he has work to do, or people to bother. His whole life, he’s been an outsider to the world he was forced into when he tried to die and ended up in Mori’s clinic at 14. The magic world that could help him, yet he is denied access to, like a kid with their nose pressed up against the window of a party.

AHHHHHHH!!! This bothers me so much!!! I'm not even gonna finish watching this vid!!! The facts aren't accurate, and it doesn't seem like the creator actually is dedicated to bsd, rather just making this vid because they thought it seemed like a good video topic!!! This is cause if the creator looked at theories of bsd, although many may not be accurate... they portray the characters way better, and even just watching through the anime or reading the manga makes us fans understand the characters more, even if subconsciously.

While they seem like bickering and opposing friends a lot(or frenemies), many things happened between them that I don't think you would straight up call them friends!!!(If anything, I prefer the Soukoku ship rather then seeing them be called friends... Though I don't have anything against them being called friends, I don't like how the creator simplifies their relationship into 'friend and fellow mafia member')

funny how this video makes me realise how i relate to dazai so much. These are all thoughts that are I tend to block out. This isn't an attempt to be edgy, I'm not charismatic and likeable like dazai is lol, and we have differences.
i constantly feel so apologetic about something, but i'm not sure what exactly. Recently i picked it apart and realised, i wanted to say sorry for being here, being born, because i am a burden and i cause hurt, and will never be accepted. My bipolar disorder and autism may contribute to this feeling as well. I have a lot of really terrible qualities, some of which i deep down don't see anything wrong with me, and if i typed them here anyone who reads it will probably hate me, and because of this i used to be very depressed. I still am but i learned to live with it and i don't really think about it anymore. It was made worse by someone pointing out these qualities and disastrously breaking off our relationship and spreading rumors about me. i tried to k*ll myself soon after, and i still feel angry at them for still thinking they are the victim, but also at myself. Why am i not an acceptable person? Why is it that i was born this way that i cannot show my true self to my friends whom are genuinely kind people? Whenever my friends tell me i'm a good person i want to tell them how wrong they are. It's an act and I'm a liar, i'm supremely good at masking, i even change my online comments to sound more neurotypical.
I'm lonely because i shut people out due to fear i will be rejected. I feel really alone even though others probably relate to me too, and it is through thrilling or harmful experiences that i actually feel a rush of life. I related to the main character of the real dazai's novel no longer human too. I feel like such an alien, like i'm missing something. When i was younger i used to believe that i would magically unlock this missing thing when i grew older, but it never came.

There's the cycle of abuse in it too- The way Mori abuses Dazai and Yosano directly results in Dazai abusing Akutagawa which leads to Akutagawa being so horrible. But he also changes and treats Atsushi better, though he does slip sometimes because that's how it works.

This is why i dont understand, bungou stray dogs is a very underrated anime and to people who have never watched it misjudge it due to the "comedic nature" of the anime but the deeper in the lore and the novel + the anime you realise that its darker it seems like dazai's suicidal behaviour, chuuya's major trust issues + stormbringer, akutagawa with the abuse cycle having no one saving him like dazai (not really tho-) and kyouka with atsushi, dazai is a very underrated character and is most definitely not okay due to the death of oda, and the mori effect, dazai is definitely the most angsty character, no longer human is basically a curse to him , he cant get help from yosano due to his ability, the mafia days also dont make his life easier

This is SO much misinformation it's CRAZY.
Dazai is NOT an orphan, this was never confirmed in any episode, chapter or light novel. If anything, in "The day I picked up Dazai" outright TELLS us he wasn't orphaned. Dazai also wasn't picked up from the streets, he attempted suicide and Mori was his doctor. He was also never pressured in the Port Mafia, the boss was literally scared of him.

I relate to Dazai and Atsushi on a level a lot won’t understand. Highly sarcastic and witty, highly endearing, and with enough trauma you do really see things for what they really are. I always tell people that I would rather make you laugh then make you cry. And have always said, I will eventually unalive myself.. just don’t know when.

Gotta say, very inaccurate, but I can see where you’re coming from. I personally don’t think Dazai is regretful of his actions or is trying to be a better person. I also don’t think he believes he’s a burden, nor does he have really any low self esteem. I don’t see him as a morally good character (not saying he’s evil or anything). Yes, I agree that Dazai has depression, but I don’t think his main symptoms include sadness or loneliness. I think he struggles much more with the apathy side of depression, he’s desperately seeking for any kind of purpose or meaning to life in a more objective, logical way, as opposed to emotional. Just my personal take on one of my favorite characters.

I’d love to see interactions between yosano and Dazai I feel like they have so many similarities and I wish they could have some sort of battle together or ANYTHING it could lead to so much growth
