OK, I’m in my 60’s, I do track days and sprints, and I enjoy performance cars. I am NOT a petrolhead. I’ve had Tesla’s since 2014. I swapped in a Tesla Model Y for one of these. It’s clear that you guys just don’t get it. 1) It’s better than the Model Y for normal road driving in ECO or Standard mode. Suspension is better, noise levels similar or less. 2) The ‘fake’ noise is completely convincing if you DRIVE the bloody car. It tricks you. It DOES NOT feel like a video game noise when you are actively driving it. 3) My wife isn’t keen on the performance aspect, but that makes no difference as in ECO mode I can drive it comfortably for her - as good as any other EV for sure. 4) If you are using paddle shift you use ‘engine braking’ to aid slowing - remember that from ICE cars? 5) On track I don’t use the gears, but I do use the sound. The ‘revs’ give a guide to the corner entry speed etc. Frankly you just don’t get the car, and I’m afraid that makes your review less useful.

So you're LGBTQ, living around Portland, are into EVs but aren't vegan? What an anomaly..

I agree with Nikki's partner. In my 70s with some back pain, I want a car that rides nice. I only use my sport mode when driving in the mountains, I do enjoy it, but I'm only good for an hour or so.

If you have Hyundai a call and they couldn't grant an extension, they are only doing themselves a disservice.

You've ignored the much more stout mechanics of the N. You can turn off the noise, but you can't turn on the additional HP, cooling or braking that is unique to the i5N.

Loved the not-a-montage!
Fake engine noises silly, if that's what it takes, I guess? Rude.
We need a choice of pedestrian warning sounds

I've seen reviewers who like the silliness, and when you think of it most of this performance stuff is bollox silliness anyhow. 50+k cars are silly. If you're not going for practical then who cares what kind of impractical it is? And why are you so concerned about having the box installed? If you can turn it off then what's the problem? Just having the possibility embarrasses you? Come on! People should be embarrassed by much worse things.

I like it—except for the overly shinny black bits. The EV6 GT has fewer of those panels... and a slightly better price, even if has "less" power.

Without the fake noise, you can pay more attention to other noises that can indicate things like slippage and other issues that you might not otherwise notice until a warning light or ping finally engages. At least that would be important to drivers whose hearing hasn't already been impaired by overexposure to loud noises.

Your are far too nice to the 5N. Noisemaker alone reveals a lack of attention to engineering discipline and detail.

'EV6 super fun to throw around the track?' More so than the 5N - the car that is designed from the ground up to be fun around a track by an ex head BMW M test engineer, a car that is raved about in every other review whilst being chucked around a track (the Chris
Harris one is particularly good). The car that has technology, a chassis and brakes to specifically make it fun around a track - and you recommend an EV6 over this? What planet are you two on?

So, let me get this straight:
IONIQ 5 - designed for and appeals to lovers of electric vehicles, leverages EV's strengths and benefits.
IONIQ 5N - designed to "appeal" to petrol heads with completely unconvincing sounds and software-based jerkiness, removing all the perceived advantages of being an EV in the first place?
No...just no. This vehicle's existence is a type of pandering which is an insult to both EV enthusiasts and gearheads alike.

Thanks and I hope things go better for you. Does this have a solar panel option? I know that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 did earlier and I hope the 2025 models will have it available for all countries, along with standard AWD. I like this EV and the fact that it can almost approximate an ICE car’s sounds will likely attract some people. May be they will do an update to make it sound exactly like an ICE car as an option, or allow you to pick other EV sounds already available on other Hyundai EVs.
