SICILIAN vs ITALIAN: me speaking both #sicilianheritage

Neat vid! Both of my parents were born and raised in Sicily before coming to the US as adults in the 1950's and 1960. Both were educated and my father was a professor of Italian language for more than 30 years in the US. At home, they spoke Sicilian when talking to each other though they would speak to me only in Italian which I studied under my father. I can understand Sicilian somewhat but can't speak it. Hearing Sicilian makes me think of my parents who I still sorely miss.

in Paraguay avevamo uno show televisivo per bambini, il presentatore diceva sempre: "come stai, mio pichiruchi!?" non sapevamo mai da cosa o da dove venisse quel picciruchi... sapevamo tutti che in qualche modo intendeva "bambini". Ora so che è di Siracusa(?)
