i don't get it. In the first example Can't the current just travel through the solder rendering the resister useless?

Watching the capacitor move itself perfectly into position with the solder paste and some heat is so satisfying.

Hence the need for a decent microscope... I'll use my pc for gui... 😀👍

Great 👌....method 2 is the best....but I think you are using too much flux....once you apply flux and lock one side with solder,the flux spreads throughout and hence you can directly use only solder on the other side,also the solder wire contains flux.
