Is 8GB of VRAM enough? RTX 3060 beats the 3070 in RE8?

I played RE4 remake on RTX 3060 (same engine) ant it used TOTAL of 11400MB of VRAM. You have separate memory monitoring for memory usage in MSI afterburner. RAM & VRAM the game is using, and TOTAL system RAM & VRAM usage.

Bro why does amd nvidia release freaking 8GB graphic cards men even 1080p 8GB not enough 12 minimum even in budget

Please help I wanna buy a new pc and I want it to run everything on max settings in 1080p so should I buy rtx 3070 or rtx 3060 12gb

Back in the day when I bought the 3060, everyone was like go for the 3060ti and criticizing the 3060, now I'm glad I kept the 3060.

I have a RTX 3070 with 8GB of VRAM and the RE4 Remake crashes when its using more as 8GB of VRAM the card is powerful enough but the vram to low payed 500 Euros a few days ago… thx Nvidia… :(

Hahaha Nvidia is not doomed they are actually doing great, it's the owners that are doomed.
Infact it's great news for them, now their beloved "customers" have a reason to spend another 1200usd plus on their new gpus

This is a fringe case, where we have a game that is easy to run on the GPU-load. This allows the 3060 to out run the 3070 in 4k. In MOST cases and moving in to the future. Running a game at 4k on ultra settings on the 3060 will hit the GPU limit way before it hits any VRAM limit. And I would argue that the same goes for 3070, its not a 4k ultra GPU any more. In almost every case, you will hit a compute power limit before you hit any v-ram limit. And of you do hit a v-ram limit you can just lower the texture one notch and it will be fine.

This discussion brings me back to good old OEM-PC builds where they would but som crappy gpu and just tripple the V-ram on it for marketing purposes.

3070 will last me years, not arsed about ray tracing and ultra settings at 1440p

You are using the shared memory aka using system ram for a slow pacing game you wont even notice but exceed it in a fast pase game and you will notice

what about 4070ti in recent games and in a near future will it be enough? hmmmm

Should I buy 3070 Ti or 6800XT?
I'm more worried about this Vram issue but 6800XT has 16GB Vram which is more than enough for 5 years to me.

I argue yes, as fh5 can need more than 8 gig at 1080p max settigs, and the massive fps hit was a pretty good indicator it was true. ( and the constant notifications and other weird stuff too, this was with a 3070ti and a770).

I think its kinda okay for the 2060super and 2070super, anything above that really needs more as those cards could use some more Vram in some games. and considering their price I do expect the to run anygame at pretty good settings. but in fainess the 3070 is a scam anyways since its basically a 3060ti that costs 100 bucks more. like just oc the 3060ti, be a bit better than 3070 base and keep that 100 bucks.

you have to play game like 2hr you will see diffrent not like 10min i had gtx 1060 3gb version when i play assasin valhala afther 2hr getting vram problems fps dropped 60 to 14 that was horrible i was reseting game and start again

I play games at 4k with my 3060 and I see 8-11gb vram usage... im getting worried because i wanted to upgrade to 3080 10gb ...

The frame drops are 100% vram related

Then that means 1080Ti is better than 2080 super and 3060Ti

So RTX 3060 will do a better job for 3D animation than a 3070?
I was with a 3060 but since the prices dropped I returned the 3060 and I got the 3070 for almost the same price. I thought the 3070 would be better for (Lumion/Twinmotion), but I tested a demo project of Twinmontion and it already consumed 75% of the 8GB VRAM.

So with a 3060 the only thing that would be worse compared to a 3070 would be the low fps using these 3D softwares? The only good thing about the 3070 is the higher fps?

And the only cards that has more than 8GB is the 3060 and 3080, 3090 but I couldn't afford a 3080/3090.

its whats keeping me away from 6-8gb as upgrades, ever since skyrim mods i knew i needed more then 6-8gbs, ideally 10-12 at least i think

All of the rtx 3xxx series with 8 gigs are TRASH. The whole 3xxx series actually has 5 cards: 3060, 3080 and its ti, 3090 and its ti.

VRAM is key in photoshop, premiere, ai enhanced video editing and future gaming with lots of hi-def textures even at 1080p (for 3060). So sad seeing nvidia gimping its own line up while giving 3060 the odd treatment.

12gb is the minimum for the near future proof there are few games uses over 10gb already

The game doesn't load texture because there is less vram. This is auto game uses lower texture quality because of lower vram.

3070 really should have had 12gbs

3060ti is stripped down 3070,hence 8 gb vram,if they went with 12 gb on 3060ti nothing else would sell.

Eh, your reported game memory being utilised in Afterburner will max out at your card's VRAM limit. So since RTX 3070 has 8GB VRAM, Afterburner will report close to 8GB being utilised (0.5GB is reserved for your OS etc), even if the game requires more than 8GB of VRAM to run properly. That said, Resident Evil Village's in-game estimate that claims it needs 12GB of VRAM is totally wrong. However I do believe Village does go over 8GB of required VRAM at 1440p maxed out + RT.

frame drops were most likely due to drm and not vram usage, i love resi 8 but this feels like a shitty console port

I’ve watched a few benchmarks and the 3070 and 3060 ti beat the 3060 in 4K. The data you showed might have been a memory issue at launch or something.

12GB should be minimum for the next Gen GPU's.

8GB vram is enough for 4k maxed out for 95% title, and 100% on 2K, vram usage isnt as same as vram allocation that show on MSI afterburner

Absolute madness that's what it is! Pre ordered the game but couldn't play it yet due to not having enough time and this is the first time I'm hearing about the 12 gb bs! My rtx 2070 super isn't good enough for 1080p ultra?! The game is phenomenal and the visuals are great too but 12 gb vram?! I can't even find the words!! And there's also the Denuvo issue that I've seen.... Holyshit Capcom!!
