The 1906 San Francisco created a lot of devastation, but there was one upside. As a result of the fires, the records at the City Hall were destroyed. This created a backdoor, and Chinese residents were able to claim citizenship and bring their relatives over.

Now America is sanctioning China and its companies because of "security risk" We all know why US is trying to stop China from progressing by banning Huawei and other chinese companies and also asking its allies to ban Semiconductors. Americans will never learn from history.

This was the United States' solution to reduce the number of murders of Chinese by the white claim jumpers during the Gold Rush. Japan doesn't admit to the massacre of the Chinese in Nanking before WWII. The US doesn't teach the Chinese Exclusion Act in the US. Maybe Japan and the US hope history repeats itself by not teaching these past events.

As of today 2023, I'm a Chinese American and still facing a lot of racism at work, or even job opportunities. E.g. employer will hire someone with no experience than me, I have worked in restaurants all my life and still didn't get a chance to get a interview.

My understanding of the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act was that it stemmed from the 1849-53 California Gold Rush, and was exploited and inflamed in wake of the Union Pacific Railroad construction between 1863 and 1869; most of the labor of it (at least the western end) was done by the Chinese; the Irish were mostly excluded because they demanded higher wages. Things came to a head in San Francisco in 1877 where the Irish laborer Dennis Kearney harangued crowds with his chants of "The Chinese Must Go!" A sympathetic government in D.C. responded with the passage of the act five years later. (I am a grandson of a Cantonese who came to California as a so-called "paper son" in 1911).

My Chinese paternal grandfather never wanted to tell this small, large part of history and part of his life to my Dad or to us, his grandchildren, the reason why he had fled the United States until he came to live here in Guatemala. He only said that he had been fleeing the United States because he never liked it, but the reality was different and today I found out from this video.
