What is the HackRF One Portapack H2+

Nice video, great device that I already wanted to buy a long time ago. I saw that there was a mini H2 and H3 portapack, a little more expensive, they don't have the two antenna sockets at the bottom. Is it better than the portapack+hackrf in the video? I thought I read one day that there was a version that should definitely not be taken because of the firmware which was a bit "locked", I don't really remember the article that I read . Can anyone tell me which version not to take?

Did adding the speaker have any negative effects on the analyzing the RF signal? I can only assume the option to have audio onboard from a speaker was left out by design.

Hi, I got rencently got the HackRF One Portapack H2+ from the same vendor as you did. It's running version 1.8.0. I struggle to pick up signals with it. I'm using the telescopic antenna it came with and tried to receive radio with the [Receive] -> [Audio] app. I only pick up garbled signals. I can hear that it is talk and music but it is almost unintelligible. I change frequency at 0.1 MHz increments from 80 to 105 MHz. I tried different settings and antenna lengths but with no effect. Is my antenna defective, the wrong kind for this or have I made some other mistake?

Can you tune an antenna with the hackRF?

Idk why they are still bothering with these bespoke devices... Just make a tiny dongle for a smart phone. It's only for fun tho

Agreed it needs a manual switch for hackrf. Mine is accidentally turned on easily. I bought it with a speaker and internal battery which isn't always the norm. Hoping one day someone will update the hardware with faster processing, usbc etc

The portapack has issues flipper zero has more support then the protapack ppl at mayhem don't want to add flipper sub files. The Flipper zero is more American focus unlike the H2 witch have functions that are useless in the states. Plus ppl at mayhem are straight assholes JS

The flipper might be a toy out of the box with its software limitations. But modified with custom firmware and added hardware to the GPIO ports the flipper is a strong and handy tool. The big pluss for rhe flipper is that it has all these functions in a slick and tiny design where as the hackRF is quite large and not easy to hide.

So I can use it like a radio, I can text with it, I can use it like a spectrum analyzer, I can send pictures from unit to unit and apparently rings my neighbors wireless doorbell.

Oh and play games on it!

This is probably a stupid question but can this record and play back a gym card from a bit of distance? I'm planning a road trip and going to be sleeping in my car, I was sort of hoping I could find a morally grey area way to use the showers at gyms as I go along my way, but it seems like you need to have direct contact with the cards to clone them. I've been reading conflicting info about the hackrf having no nfc/rfid abilities and maybe the chameleon being the best option

It will get better over time as the raw tools are all there, you'll see people adding programs to it, it's kind of like an updated hardware set up, but without the tools that have been built for flipper zero. Remember, flipper is much more evolved. This is new and has a lot of opportunity to be far better than the flipper but for size, flipper wins, but add a headset to it and it looks just like a radio.

or its possible to make this show digital tv and use as mini tv?

Radio frequencies can be encrypted though so not very useful outside of quirky tinkering
