The World's Biggest Liar Competition - The Festival of Fibs

It is perhaps one of the most picturesque and peaceful places in Britain – the Wasdale Valley in Cumbria, Northern England.

But it’s not just water that flows freely here, so do lies. In fact, there’s been a strong current of deception in this tiny valley for over 100 years ever since the 1800s when a popular publican, Will Ritson kept customers enthralled, and drinking no doubt, by telling folk stories.

The pub at Bridge Inn in Santon Bridge, Cumbria is where it all began. Every November it now honours the former landlord and his whoppers, by hosting The Biggest Liar in the World competition.

For legitimate contestants, there’s a special skill to telling that polished porkie.

The contest is open to anyone except those who in the organiser's eyes are professionally qualified so that rules out lawyers, politicians, estate agents and some say, wives.

The prize, well more than enough to make the winner rich for life – a pledge embodying the very essence of the competition.

Believe that and you will believe anything!
