As a Bulgarian, I've never really felt that Macedonia should somehow change their identity, let alone become part of Bulgaria. We've barely had a common history for the past century.

However, what both Greece and Bulgaria find really troubling is the fact that North Macedonia picks parts of our histories and calls it their own. For instance, "their" most famous Tzars was Samuil, who is universally considered Bulgarian by all historians, except Macedonian ones. His arch-enemy, the Byzantine Basil II, even got the nickname The Bulgarslayer after defeating him in battle. The worst part is that they are so desperate to "rebrand" and "fix" history that they destroy ancient books and architecture, especially anything that features the word "Bulgarian" on it. It's backwards and desperate. Not to mention, if any Macedonian tries to argue their Bulgarian herritage, he/she is completely shunned from their community and even physically abused.

On the other hand we have the extreme Bulgarian nationalists who are more happy to bully and threaten the Macedonians at any chance they get, not because they want to see them admit anything, but because they thrive on aggression. I am strongly opposed to Bulgaria preventing North Macedonia to join the EU, it's super petty and economically self-harming on our part. Not to mention that denying their right to join is harming the people we call "Bulgarians" and "brothers". Yeah, I don't expect things to get better between us, politically speaking.

Rep of North Macedonia was actually ancient Paeonia. the name Macedonia was NEVER applied to that region prior to 1944, the name Macedonia was invented for this region by Marshall Tito in 1944 because Tito wanted to invade and annexe the northerm Greek region of Macedonia to Yugoslavia. Τthe name "Macedonia" for this region (formerly the Vardar Banovina region of southern Serbia) was invented by Marshall Tito in 1944 because he wanted to invade and annexe the real original ancient Macedonia in northern Greece. Hello. I like your video but i got to tell you that macedonia was always greek and for some reason those slavs gained their independence from Yugoslavia and wanted to be called macedonians. I dont know why but i assume that greeks were mixed with the slavs over there during the balkan war with the strategic propaganda of bulgaria. So after years people of the place now called north macedonia wanted their country with greek and slav history. I mean they aren't right they are confused but they got a point.
